Champagne Day is celebrated on December 31, 2020

Champagne Day, also known as New Year’s Eve, is the perfect time to open that fancy bottle of bubbles. So let’s get poppin’ and toast to a bright new year on December 31, Champagne Day!
Did you know that sparkling wine can only be called Champagne if it is produced in the Champagne region of France, just northeast of Paris? True champagne can made with three grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Methode champenoise is the method used to make champagne with a second fermentation in the bottle, which makes champagne delightfully fizzy.
Do you know how many bubbles are in your glass of champagne? According to scientist Gérard Liger-Belair, who has done extensive research on effervescence in beverages, states that a million bubbles can be found in one flute of champagne! So don’t wait to celebrate, let’s pop the cork and use this day as the best excuse (not that we need one!) to enjoy champagne!
What will you be sipping on Champagne Day? There are so many fabulous champagnes to choose from. Now is the time to dust off your parents crystal wedding flutes sitting in the back of your cupboard and enjoy some bubbly in high style. Fine champagne deserves fine crystal. The classic tried and true champagnes are always a good choice. Dom Perignon is a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay grapes and is pleasing to everyone’s palate. Perfect to pair with a bit of caviar. Vevue Cliquot is another classic champagne, well known for it’s “yellow label”. It is predominantly pinot noir blended with chardonnay, perfect to pair with fresh oysters.
If you aim to impress, choose a vintage champagne. Vintage champagnes are made with grapes from only that particular year. Vevue Clicquot also offers La Grande Dame Champagne which was named in honor of Madame Clicquot. She is also known as Widow Clicquot because she took ownership of her husband’s wine business after she was widowed at the age of 27. Do not let another year go by without tasting this fabulous champagne!
Are you celebrating romance in the new year? Treat your lover to Charles de Cazanove Stradivarius Brut Champagne. As Shakespeare so eloquently wrote in his comedy “Twefth NIght” – “If music be the food of love, play on”. This lovely champagne was first produced in 1811 by a French glassmaker who was also a lover of literature. A blend of chardonnay and pinot noir with aromas of almonds, white peach, brioche and citrus.
Do you choose your wine by how pretty it looks in the glass? Ruinart Rosé is the champagne for you. This champagne is a delicate blend of chardonnay and pinot noir grapes. The color is a gentle pomegranate pink. You will be delighted with flavors of strawberry, raspberry, cherry and pomegrante in this champagne. Fresh and elegant with so many bubbles dancing in the glass.
What type of champagne lover are you – classic, romantic or wearing rosé colored glasses? Or maybe you love champagne so much you will pop open a bottle of each to enjoy on Champagne Day? Happy New Year!
