While the roar of the crowd might have been muted this season, Marshawn Lynch and Subway want students athletes to have moment of glory. With football seasons altered for safety concerns, those epic plays did happen, but they may not have had a full audience to capture the moment. Shouldn’t that epic catch be seen by millions? With the Subway Pro Teen Awards, those momentous plays will get their moment in infamy.

Recently, Lynch and Subway partnered on the Pro Teen Awards. This program invited high school football athletes to submit videos of the best catches, impressive tackles or memorable plays. 20 winners received a special video from Lynch, a virtual award ceremony and a $1,500 scholarship.

Recently, FoodSided spoke with Marshawn Lynch about the importance of the Pro Teen Awards and some of his thoughts about the new Protein Bowls at Subway.

Marshawn Lynch believes these student athlete football videos will make a difference.

Over the past year, many athletes have struggled. Beyond the lack of crowds in the stands, the changes to competition can have a great impact on their future. Often those games serve as a way for high school student athletes to get recruited.

Lynch said that the Pro Teen Awards give those football players a way to catch the eyes of recruiters. While he understands that the pandemic has athletes hard, these videos can give them some hope. That few minutes of video on social media can be that moment to capture the attention of a recruiter.

The old phrase, 15 minutes of fame, might turn into an opportunity of a lifetime. Lynch mentioned that some football players could capture the attention of a coach and fill a spot that a team needs. While all that grind and effort at practice lead up to that moment, getting that visual in front of the decision maker is key.

Granted the winners will walk away with the prize, everyone involved benefits. Lynch saw players from his old neighborhood on the submissions. He believes that giving student athletes that opportunity can propel them to a brighter future.

Of course, Lynch thought is helpful for the students to have a little extra “cheese” in their pocket when they head off to school, but it is more than that. The exposure on a national level is a huge game changer. Who knows, it could make someone a household name.

While that one moment can be a game changer, athletes need to prepare to create that one big moment. Lynch says in his Subway commercial, never let anything get in your way. He shared that believes when one door closes another door opens. He has chosen to remove all that negative energy and focus on what he can achieve. He is using his second career path to the fullest.

Although few people will ever achieve that Beast Mode status, he did provide some poignant advice for younger athletes. He mentioned that it is about finding the balance between work, rest, and recovery. Of course, he did recommend grabbing some of the new Subway Protein Bowls, especially for athletes who want to gain some weight. That extra protein boost can help fuel them to power through to the next level.
