For people of a certain again, Pizza Hut was more than Friday night pizza delivery. When your parents loaded the family into the car, walked into that red-roofed restaurant, and ordered everyone a Personal Pan Pizza, it was the perfect culmination to a week. And, a great grade on at school could even mean an extra play on that Pac-Man game. Pizza Hut Newstalgia brings back those memories in a new way.

In some ways, the old is new again with the Newstalgia campaign. That concept of kid at heart brings a slice of happy.

While no one out pizzas the hut, the campaign commercial featuring Craig Robinson has that feel of Newstalgia. From playing Pac-Man to the classic décor, it is like stepping back in time.

While some people might have that happy memory, there is another aspect that will make everyone smile. Who doesn’t want a $10 Tastemaker pizza? But, there’s more than just a tasty pizza. That box has deserves a moment of recognition.

As part of the Newstalgia, there is a new limited-edition PAC-MAN box that people can play via augmented reality. Although it isn’t necessarily the same as sitting down to that classic arcade game, but you will want to make sure that Pac-Man takes down all those pesky ghosts.

According to Yutaka Fuse, Head of Licensing and Branding at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc., “PAC-MAN’s design and creation was inspired by the shape of a pizza with a slice taken out of it.” In some ways, that slice of gaming history makes this partnership even more appropriate. Now, even more people can make that pizza and Pac-Man connection.

Even Craig Robinson recalls those special Pizza Hut memories growing up. Robinson said. “Growing up in the 80s, mine was going into Pizza Hut and devouring those little PAC-MAN dots just like I did my pizza. Those arcade games in the restaurant – there was nothing better as a kid.”

In some ways, this Pizza Hut Newstalgia campaign represents that food and culture connection that people crave. While the idea isn’t necessarily stepping back in time, it is bringing those food memories back in an innovative way. Sometimes the tastiest slice of pizza is the one that comes with a great story.

George Felix, Chief Marketing Officer, Pizza Hut said, “As we look to connect with a new generation of pizza lovers, we are tapping into those things that make Pizza Hut great in a modern and relevant way.”

While the Pac-Man AR box might be a limited offering, it will make pizza fans excited for even more announcements and promotions for the rest of the year. Whether it is that Book It reward for fostering a love of reading or enjoying a refreshing beverage from that iconic red cup, the reality is that Pizza Hut has its own pop culture story that needs to be celebrated. Although you do not have to hang your own Tiffany Style light over your dining table, you can bring back a taste of nostalgia that you have been craving.
