In the Best Baker in America Season 4 premiere, Carla Hall opens the Food Network kitchen to a group of elite bakers. With the help of judges Jason Smith and Gesine Prado, one baker will earn the coveted title. Which baker will showcase the best desserts through this delectable road trip?

According to Food Network, the Best Baker in America Season 4 premiere, “The South” features the following:

"Ten of America’s elite professional bakers gather to begin the first in a series of baking challenges designed to test their limits. Host Carla Hall announces the Southern dessert theme and the first master challenge from Kentucky: baking a May Day PieCaken using bourbon as the featured flavor, of course. The bakers in the elimination bake-off have to create a unique dessert using all the elements of Florida’s Key lime pie. After judging and deliberation with judges Jason Smith and Gesine Prado, Carla announces which baker is heading home."

Asking the bakers to take on the pop culture dessert icon, the PieCaken, in the first challenge is hard. Creating that dessert takes keen skill. From a perfectly baked pie to the moist crumb on the cake, each element must be perfect.

Add to that PieCaken task the element of bourbon and the difficulty level increases. Although Jason Smith appreciates that beauty of bourbon, the flavor needs a deft hand. Too much and the dessert tastes like a cocktail and too little then the flavor is missing.

For the key lime pie, the bakers will have to impress Carla Hall, who everyone knows loves a good pucker. With this dessert, it is more than just a simple graham cracker crust and a luscious curd. The bakers need to add a creative element. Beyond a deconstructed dessert or a layered option, to earn the Best Baker in Baker in the America title, these bakers need to put a new dessert on the plate.

The journey across U.S. desserts starts in the South. Who will impress on the Best Baker in America premiere? Here’s how to watch.
