Top Chef Season 18 episode 6 preview: Magical kitchen forest awaits

While the drive-in challenge might not have a sequel, Top Chef Season 18 episode 6 heads in a different direction. Leaving the Top Chef kitchen behind, the forest holds a bounty of deliciousness. What will the chefs find within the trees?

According to Bravo, Top Chef Season 18 episode 6 “Stumptown U.S.A” features the following:

"The chefs are transported into a magical kitchen forest with their prep tables gone and replaced by stumps for this week’s Quickfire Challenge where they must make a dish featuring Tom’s favorite ingredient – mushrooms. Then in the Elimination Challenge, the cheftestants will be paired up to create a surf & turf dish featuring local fish and game for members of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla. But first they’ll get to learn and taste some of the initial foods of the area. With a double elimination on the line, Dale Talde joins the judges’ table."

For the Quickfire Challenge, the chefs should be excited to cook with mushrooms. In truth, mushrooms, especially freshly foraged mushrooms, are a special ingredient.

This challenge should spark some creativity with the chefs. It will be interesting to see how those chefs make the simple ingredients shine.

In the Elimination Challenge, the chefs have a tough challenge. While creating a duality dish is often a chef’s downfall in Top Chef, this surf and turf challenge is more than just two proteins on the plate. The dish must respect the local culture. This food is more than just another item from the store. There is a connection to the food on the plate.

With the drive-in challenge seeing some top contenders fall from grace, a double elimination could see a big shake-up within the cheftestants ranks. Could an early favorite be sent to Last Chance Kitchen?
