Top Chef Season 18 episode 8 preview: Restaurant Wars sets a Chef’s Table
Every season, Restaurant Wars is the must watch episode and Top Chef Season 18 episode 8 brings a new twist to the fan favorite. Will the judges’ glimpse into the kitchen cause the “team unity” façade to crumble?
According to Bravo, Top Chef Season 18 episode 8, “Restaurant Wars,” features the following:
"With the top eight chefs remaining, it’s time for the perennial favorite – Restaurant Wars. This year, the chefs are split into teams and tasked with creating a Chef’s Table restaurant concept where they will serve a seven course high-end tasting menu to the judges and All-Star panel. Gregory Gourdet and Kristen Kish join Padma, Tom and Gail at the judges’ table."
As has happened in many previous seasons, it will be about the team dynamic in Restaurant Wars. If the chefs cannot work together and execute a cohesive menu, the dinner service will fail. It doesn’t matter if these chefs are all the boss in their own kitchens, someone will have to lead and someone will have to follow. Not everyone can be “big chef” in the kitchen.
Given that the judges will be watching from a Chef’s Table, the dynamic will be quite different to this season. Although many people have come to delight in seeing Tom and Padma wait for a table like “normal” diners, the reality is that concept couldn’t happen during filming.
Then again, this Chef’s Table twist could be one that fans like even better. Shouldn’t the judges have a little more insight into the chef bickering?
In addition, this concept takes away the chef showman aspect. As seen in last season’s Restaurant Wars, Brian Malarkey and his big personality swayed the outcome in his team’s favor. It wasn’t necessarily that one dinner was hugely better than the other. That presentation did have an impact.
For Top Chef Season 18 episode 8, the chefs have to execute each dish and keep their eye on the prize. It might be best to keep the fire in the kitchen on a slow simmer.
