While eating at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant might a taste of a lifetime, the MasterChef Legends premiere give one aspiring chef an opportunity that he will never forget. In this exclusive video on FoodSided, this home cook presents a dish that he believes will earn him an apron.
Food television has come a long way over the years. For food lovers who can think back before social media and all the Gordon Ramsay shows filling nightly television, Emeril Lagasse turned cooking shows into entertainment. Even if that iconic “bam” was meant to wake up a television production member, the celebrated chef became and continues to be a legend.
From his signature style to his bold flavors, Lagasse gave home cooks an open door to explore food and flavor. Even if viewers had never stepped foot onto Bourbon Street, those dishes sparked conversation that continued beyond the closing credits.
Although the Emeril Live might not be weekly rotation, his presence on MasterChef Legends serves as a reminder that without him, many of today’s culinary greats, aspiring chefs and home cooks would not be willing to explore that essence of flavor. And, maybe a few of Gordon Ramsay’s memorable lines would not be quite as powerful if it was not for that first “Bam” that woke up the kitchen.

In the Masterchef Legends premiere, one home cook wants to impress his idol. As the FoodSided exclusive video shows, the meaning behind the dish is as important as the dish itself.

Whether or not Matt’s dish of an egg yolk ravioli with homemade ricotta, roasted cherry tomatoes and crispy fried leeks earns him an apron remains to be seen.
