Top Chef Season 18 episode 11 preview: Ingredients packed with care
As Top Chef Season 18 gets closer to the finale, the pressure is on the cheftestants. While there have been many high points, keeping emotions in check can be more difficult than serving Tom okra. In this episode, could that care package cause the cheftestants to soar or will the gift be too much to bear?
According to the Bravo, Top Chef Season 18 episode 11 features the following:
"This week’s Quickfire Challenge takes inspiration from “Top Chef” France’s infamous Black Box challenge. In teams of two, the chefs each take a turn entering the box where they blindly taste a dish created by guest judge Gabriel Rucker and then must try to recreate it. During a night off, the chefs are surprised by guest judges Kristen Kish and Brooke Williamson arrive with care packages from their families. However, in true “Top Chef” fashion, there’s a twist and they must use the ingredients from their care packages to make their dish for the Elimination Challenge."
For the Quickfire Challenge, this concept is quite difficult. Although there have been blind tastings, recreating a dish that was eaten in the dark might be cooking to the extreme. That old phrase that you eat with your eyes might be even more important. Can these expert chefs get ingredients totally wrong?
Although immunity is off the table, there is an advantage to winning Quickfire Challenges. It is a mental game. When a chef earns praises from the judges, that subsequent dish might already have some positive vibes. Thinking back to the previous episode, it might have given Dawn an advantage over Byron.
For the Elimination Challenge, the emotional aspect might impact the dishes. While food is the universal language, sometimes the gravity of the situation can cause a dish to be muddled. From lack of focus to indecision, all of those factors can come into play.
At the same time, the connection to the food memory or family can spark an amazing dish. Throughout the season, the cheftestants have raised the expectations. Hopefully, this connection to family will showcase some of the best dishes yet.
