The Great Food Truck Race All Stars episode 2: Sell, sell, and sell more
While the Great Food Truck Race All Stars might have proven themselves in previous Food Network competitions, the food trucks are only as good as the current challenge. While real estate is all about location, food truck success is all about sales. Which team learns a hard lesson in this new episode?
According to the Food Network, the Great Food Truck Race All Stars episode 2, “Old School Selling” features the following:
"n Napa Valley, Calif., the six remaining food truck teams go head-to-head in a grape-stomping competition with a unique prize. Host Tyler Florence challenges them to incorporate red wine in a dish for a taste test he judges, and he forces the teams to get back to their roots and compete for sales the old-fashioned way. After two days of selling, one team has a stellar sales total, and one truck must close its doors for good."
As seen in the premiere episode, Mystikka Masala learned a hard lesson by not taking every opportunity to sell to potential customers. In this season, every sale and every dollar matters.
At the same time, the food trucks should not gouge the guests. Granted, this Food Network competition is a game, but the $75 for a bread bowl is crazy.
Looking at the challenges in this episode, it will be interesting to see how the food trucks handle the Napa location. Since wine country has a knowledgeable food crowd, the food trucks cannot just serve any dish. They need to take the guests and their food preferences into consideration.
Still, sales are sales. From good marketing to smart locations, these teams need to be smart about their decisions. Another team will leave the competition and it all comes down to the tally in Tyler’s ledger.
