With the finale within the chefs’ reach, Top Chef Season 18 episode 13 is getting a little fishy. While the three remaining chefs seem to be getting along swimmingly, could one little mis-step could cause one chef to pack their knives and ship out to sea?

According to Bravo, Top Chef Season 18 episode 13 preview features the following:

"The remaining chefs get an early wake-up call from Padma to go meet guest judge Brooke Williamson and dig for clams for their Quickfire Challenge. In the Elimination Challenge, the chefs honor the area where James Beard spent his summers, creating both a hot dish and a cold dish with one of his favorite ingredients, Dungeness Crab. Kwame Onwuachi and Nina Compton serve as guest judges this week to help determine which chefs will move on to the finale."

Looking at the Quickfire Challenge, the clams might prove to be a little tricky for the chefs. It isn’t necessarily the “clamming” part, it is being creative with clams. At this point in the competition, the dish needs to standout. To say that clams with garlic is a hard pass might be an understatement.

For the Elimination Challenge, the idea of having both a hot and a cold dish presents another difficult element for the cheftestants. Anyone who has watched Top Chef over the years appreciates that the duality dish is often the kiss of “packing the knives.”

The interesting part of a hot and cold dish is the contrasting flavors. The change in temperature changes the flavor of the crab. Showcasing that nuance should earn a chef praise.

While Shota, Gabe and Dawn remain, many fans were not happy with the outcome from the previous episode. Even though a fish and cheese combination is not always a popular choice, Jaime did not make a big error like Dawn. Many fans did not understand how Dawn could continue to the final three after forgetting a component on her dish.

Based on this week’s episode preview, it seems that Gabe might forget a component, too. It will be interesting to see if Gabe gets the same benefit as Dawn or if there is something fishy in the kitchen.
