This chicken sandwich is the first of its kind and you won’t believe it

On National Fried Chicken Day, the Airheads chicken sandwich will have everyone taking notice. Yes, that phrase is correct. While there are many “favorites” in the chicken world, this newest food entry has many people wanting that coveted taste. Could this new sweet, savory offering start a whole new food trend?

Chicken sandwiches come in all shapes, sizes and flavors. From that Southern style to the Nashville chicken to grandma’s secret recipe, the food debate rages on to determine which sandwich reigns supreme. Still, there is always room for improvement.

In a very unexpected twist, Airheads has entered the chicken sandwich wars. That’s right, a candy company is putting its spin on this food trend.

According to Craig Cuchra, VP of Marketing for Perfetti Van Melle North America, “On July 6, 2021,National Fried Chicken Day, the world will finally see what’s been missing in chicken.”

What can people expect from the Airheads chicken sandwich?

While the brand commented, “That is for us to know and all of those other chicken restaurants to find out,” the pictures are somewhat telling. Plus, Airheads describes the offering as “a fried chicken sandwich with a candy bun.”

Before people scoff at this idea, the concept of sweet, salty and savory isn’t too far-fetched. Remember all the chicken and waffles that people still love? Blending those flavors together are a classic. In some ways, why didn’t a company think of this flavor combination before?

Although Airheads doesn’t have a restaurant or a restaurant collaboration for this offering, it shared that it does have a food truck. Where that food truck will be offering this special treat was not revealed. But, there were many references to “the moon landing” in the brand’s announcement. Maybe the special sweet treat requires a flavor trip to infinity and beyond.
