Craving that meatball marinara sandwich? Guests might want to plan ahead because Subway restaurants will be closing for part of July 12. The reason why the lights will be off is a big one and it will have even more guests heading to Subway on July 13.

Recently, Subway announced a huge menu revamp. The Eat Fresh Refresh included 20 menu updates. From new recipes to additional ingredients to even some new sandwiches the concept is to give guests the best quick service restaurant experience.

As part of this new menu launch, there are several changes happening on July 12 and July 13. First, various Subway restaurants will close at 6:00 p.m. on July 12. That early closing will allow restaurants to prepare for the Eat Fresh Refresh.

Second, on July 13, Subways will be giving away 1 Million free sandwiches. From 10 a.m. till noon local time, participating locations will be offering a free six-inch Turkey Cali Fresh sub. The free food offer is available on a limited basis and guests must request the free food offer.

The special offer gives guests an opportunity to try the one of the new menu items. Although many people have their favorite Subway offering, free food is often a great way for people to step out of the comfort zone. If that first bite impresses, then they will come back time and again.

Given the competition in the quick service restaurant space, it will be interesting to see how this offer and Eat Fresh Refresh is viewed by consumers. If the new menu items and additional ingredients are well received, it might spark a menu revamp at other restaurants, too. As long as the chicken sandwich wars start to slow down, everyone might feel a little better.

What do you think of the Subway changes? Will it make you want to try its new menu?
