For Hell’s Kitchen Season 20 episode 8, the Young Guns must cook for their lives. Although some strides have been made by the chefs, no one expected one chef to not even finish the previous dinner service. To say that Gordon Ramsay was on fire was an understatement. Could another shake up happen in Hell’s Kitchen?

According to FOX, Hell’s Kitchen Season 20 episode 8, “A Devilish Challenge” features the following:

"The remaining chefs compete in a tag-team relay race competition, in which they must cook entrees against the other team. Later, five chef-testants face the first “Cook For Your Life” challenge of the season in the all-new “Young Guns: A Devilish Challenge” episode of HELL’S KITCHEN airing Monday, July 19 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX."

Looking at the synopsis, the tag-team relay could spell trouble for the teams. Although communication has been better, there still is bickering within both teams. That battle to be the most important chef on the line is an unwanted seasoning to any successful dish. Sometimes, it is better to take a step back and work together to ensure success.

For the “Cook For Your Life” challenge, the reality is that the chefs aren’t necessarily making the best dish ever. Instead, they are making the better dish for the moment. In this scenario, it is about executing a dish well and ensuring a spot in the next dinner service versus trying something new.

Although some chefs have started to find their stride, there are still too many bumps in the road. At this point in the season, classic dishes shouldn’t have major mistakes. Even though both teams have recovered, the recovery shouldn’t be necessary. Doesn’t Gordon Ramsay want a chef who is consistent?

And, based on previews, it seems that there will be some outside drama in the kitchen. Hopefully that aspect doesn’t sour the competition. Sometimes a culinary competition needs to focus on the food, not the food fantasy.
