Even as the cheers from Tokyo 2020 begin to fade, the reality is that Olympic Spirit burned brightly at Universal Orlando. While few people will know the success of wearing an Olympic medal around their necks, the reality is that everyone can celebrate their own feelings of accomplishment and pride.

As was said many times over during the Tokyo 2020 games, this event was not the typical endeavor. Just like the stories of mental health taking priority over medal counts, the truth is that an athlete does not achieve greatness in solitude. Although the phrase has been said and used in many ways, it takes a village to reach the pinnacle of any sport.

Unlike previous Olympic Games families and supporters had to watch their athlete from afar. Although everyone appreciated the rationale why, it turned every play on those screens into must watch television. Even though the athletes might not have heard that signature cheer from their parent or loved ones, those sentiments supporting the Olympic spirit traveled the distance in other ways.

Although Universal Orlando has had many opportunities to bring that “whoa” feeling and moment to its guests, Tokyo 2020 took that Florida theme park experience to another level. For a moment, the biggest thrills didn’t come from that barrel roll at the end of the Velocicoaster. It was the excitement from seeing everyone, champions and journeymen, wear their country’s flag proudly and leave their best efforts on the field of play.

Universal Orlando representative shared, “As part of the Comcast NBCUniversal family, we were honored to host an exclusive watch party at Universal Orlando Resort for family and friends of Team USA athletes throughout the Tokyo Olympics. They were able to watch coverage and cheer for their loved ones together.“

Highlighting that Olympic celebration wasn’t just limited to Team USA families during Tokyo 2020. Theme park guests could watch all the action around Universal Orlando Resort. There was even a taste of Tokyo at Universal Studios. Over the past weekend, even Team USA athletes led the nightly parade.

All of those moments showed that the sense of wonder and awe is what makes people go “whoa.” While some people may never swim a lap of butterfly and others could never do a front flip, this year’s celebration at Universal Orlando wasn’t about the unable, it was about the achievable.

When people step into a theme park, a touch of the every day is left behind. Whether it is waving a wand to cast a spell or capturing the most aliens with that 999,999 score or just laughing at the coffee joke that everyone has heard 100 times over, it is about finding that smile and enjoying the moment.

From celebrations to consolations, the reality is that is merriment to be found. People just have to look in the right places. This summer, Universal Orlando and its support of Team USA gave everyone a little more encouragement to find that smile, dream big and celebrate all the accomplishments and the people who helped turn them into reality.
