For many football fans, there is nothing better than tailgating in the shadows of the stadium. The aroma from the grill, the games in the parking lot, the cheers from the fans make that build-up to the game as exciting as the plays on the gridiron. With the San Francisco 49ers Tail-Crate, that tailgating fun isn’t limited to Levi’s Stadium.

Last year’s football season was a little anticlimactic. While fans appreciated seeing their favorite football teams take the field, the “automated” cheers piped through the empty stadiums felt a little lacking. Even though the season was completed, many people craved that in-person experience.

To stay connected with their fans, the San Francisco 49ers created the Tail-Crate. These subscription boxes brought a taste of the stadium to the fans. These special team branded items and snacks kept the fan connection all season long.

Since this idea was such a huge success, the San Francisco 49ers Tail-Crate is back for the 2021 season. Starting on August 19 at 8:30 am, fans can head to 49ers.com/tailcrate to make a purchase. The subscription boxes can be purchased as a single box ($49) or the whole season ($180). The boxes will be available September through December.

To kick off the 2021 Tail-Crates, the September box will feature “Pair of 49ers shot glasses, 2021 team yearbook, Jimmy G bobblehead, additional gifts/coupons from 49ers team partners.” Future box descriptions will be available from the team.

Last year’s fan engagement was hugely successful. Through simple word of mouth, the entire 2020 inventory sold out in a few short hours. Even though fans will be able to see games in person, this subscription box idea seems likely to be equally successful this year.

Given the 49ers success, other NFL teams might want to take notice. Fan engagement should always be a top priority. For fans who no longer live in their team’s city, these types of promotions are a smart idea.
