Smoothies have become a favorite for many people. But, there are a few caveats with that sweet sip. It is often best to blend in some good nutritional choices. From extra fruit to some protein, that glass can be full of goodness.

Tropicana has created some tasty smoothie recipes that use its Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice. While many people have a bottle in the refrigerator, that orange juice can be used beyond just pouring another glass.

In this almond butter and jelly smoothie recipe, the Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice adds the brightness to the flavor. While the almond butter and nuts can be a little rich, that orange juice helps to balance the flavor.

Even though all the ingredients are blended together, the reality is a great smoothie is more than just whipping ingredients. There needs to be thoughtfulness in each combination.

Here’s how to make almond butter and jelly smoothie recipe.

Ingredients:

  • *¼ cup slivered raw almonds or whole raw cashews
  • ¾ cup, plus 2 tablespoons Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice
  • 1 heaping tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 small frozen banana
  • 1 teaspoon ground flax seed
  • 8 ounces frozen raspberries or strawberries (or combination of both)
  • Raspberry or strawberry, for garnish

Instructions:

  • Combine the almonds and orange juice in a small bowl, cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and best up to 24 hours.
  • Place the nuts and the soaking liquid in the blender, add 1 tablespoon of the almond butter, the banana and flax seed and blend until smooth, about 1 minute.
  • Add the berries and blend again, adding a splash of water, if needed, until very smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Pour the smoothie into a glass and garnish with a berry or two.

For people who prefer grape jelly in a PB&J, it might be time to try some berries. This smoothie would not work with grapes. Berries just blend better. While it might not change your sandwich preferences, this smoothie is a great alternative.

Also, the ground flax seed adds a boost of nutrition. For families, this smoothie is a great way for the kids to get fruit, protein and some healthy eating to start the day. And, it is a flavor that everyone likes. It might be the big win without the fighting.
