After the previous episode brought back two former contestants, Halloween Baking Championship Season 7 episode 3 has the bakers wondering what other tricks are waiting to be revealed in the Food Network kitchen. All this uncertainty could have the bakers feeling a little batty.

According to Food Network, Halloween Baking Championship Season 7 episode 3, “Bat in Black,” features the following:

"The competition is only getting tougher at Camp Devil’s Food Lake as host John Henson challenges the bakers to make creepy cupcakes and a British classic that is completely batty. Judges Stephanie Boswell, Carla Hall and Zac Young will determine who survives another week at camp."

Looking at the synopsis, the creepy cupcakes could be another challenge that has Food Network fans talking. This season the bakers have frosted over the lighter aspects of Halloween. While some people appreciate the kooky in Halloween, that sentiment has faded to black. It is more eww than aww on this Halloween Baking Championship season.

For these cupcakes, both the flavor and the visual need to get the initial reaction. As seen in the first two episodes, the desserts that do not deliver that story might be sent out into the fog.

At the same time, the flavor cannot be totally forgotten. While the visual was a larger emphasis on the previous episode, the execution aspect needs to be a priority. When a great looking dessert entices but the flavor doesn’t deliver, it might be scarier than the ghost lurking in the shadows.

With Food Network putting the emphasis on Ghostober, these challenges are intended to push the envelope. For the creepy cupcakes, it would be nice to see an element that adds to the unexpected aspect. From a flavor that changes through the eating experience to even a surprising textural element, there needs to be something that captures the creepy.

For the second challenge, a batty-esque dessert could have some people longing for the sun to come up. Bats can be a difficult theme. Although it is unclear which British dessert is on the table, the truth is that this challenge is another example that Halloween Baking Championship Season 7 is not like previous seasons. These bakers better be ready to fly high.

Halloween Baking Championship Season 7 episode 3, “Bat in Black” airs on Monday, September 27 at 9 p.m. EST on Food Network. It can be streamed on Discovery+.
