Even though the nighttime atmosphere of Hersheypark might be eerie, this episode of Chocolate Meltdown Hershey’s After Dark has the pastry artists finding inspiration from the heavens. Will these sci-fi creations be out of this world?

According to Food Network, Chocolate Meltdown Hershey’s After Dark, episode two, “Scary Sci-Fi” features the following:

"Host Sunny Anderson locks three pastry chefs inside Hersheypark overnight to create sci-fi-inspired chocolate showpieces that impress judges Ralph Attanasia and Maneet Chauhan. An award-winning chocolatier meets his match in two strong competitors as they race through the park picking up candy and making delicious sweets. An artist who loves to create life-sized cakes struggles with her main character while a young chocolatier has a complete chocolate meltdown over a tempering technique gone terribly wrong. A mid-competition surprise leaves the chefs “mooing” for more time as they must race through the park for another Candy Clue. Finally, the judges hand out some hot compliments and cold critiques when deciding whose chocolate masterpiece is good enough to earn $10,000 and a dream vacation in Hershey, Pennsylvania!"

While it appears that the pastry chefs can take the sci-fi theme in their various directions, the judges do seem to want a clear balance of creativity and execution. It is more than just another big piece of chocolate without any thought.

As seen in the previous episode, the pastry artists who best transform the candy in creative ways seem to earn the judges’ favor. All of these pastry chefs can sculpt a great cake or piece of chocolate, but can they make that piece of Twizzlers turn into something more. The pair that can make the judges forget that they are seeing candy could earn the big prize.

After watching the first episode, the mid-challenge tasks seem to keep the pastry chefs off kilter. Watching them run around Hersheypark to gather clues and ride rides makes this Food Network show unique.

More importantly, it is a new approach to the twist. Many other Food Network challenges have secret ingredients or other obstacles. Given the nature of this show, showcasing the theme park adds to the viewers enjoyment.

Given that this challenge brings a cow into the mix, there should be a lot of puns. Although cows might not be the most likely sci-fi twist, it will be interesting to see how that twist plays out in the competition.

Overall, one of the reasons why Chocolate Meltdown Hershey’s After Dark is successful has to do with the judges. Maneet Chauhan and Ralph Attanasia have a great chemistry. From their witty banter to their thoughtful feedback, this pair is one of the big reasons to watch this Food Network competition.

A new episode of Chocolate Meltdown Hershey’s After Dark airs on Mondays at 10 p.m. EST and it can be streamed on Discovery+ as well.
