Air Fryer Cheese Curds are the perfect recipe for National Cheese Curds Day
Did you know that National Cheese Curds Day is October 15? While Culver’s has some tasty fried cheese curds on the menu, this Air Fryer Cheese Curds recipe from Wisconsin Cheese is the must have treat for the food holiday or any day where the craving for some squeaky cheese happens.
While most people know (and love) cheese curds, there can be a few skeptics about those little golden nuggets of flavor. Before someone comments about how these bites are not cheese or are just cast offs, the reality is that cheese curds require attention to detail. With only one master cheese curd maker in the state of Wisconsin, those tasty gems need to be elevated on the cheese board.
Although Wisconsin fans know, and love, those fried cheese curds, some people might not have had the pleasure of that delicious bite. The combination of crispy, crunchy outside with gooey, delicious cheese center can make a stomach grumble at just the name on a menu.
To be clear, a fried cheese curd is not a mozzarella stick. While both might have a fried component, the taste and texture are quite different.

Here’s how to make Air Fryer Cheese Curds.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups panko bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 8 ounces Renards Famous Cheese Curds – Original
- Cooking spray
Instructions:
- Heat air fryer to 350 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with waxed paper. Place flour in a shallow, medium bowl. Lightly beat eggs in separate shallow, medium bowl. Combine the bread crumbs, garlic powder and cayenne pepper in another shallow, medium bowl.
- Coat cheese curds, a few at a time, in flour. Dip cheese curds in eggs; then coat with crumb mixture, shaking off any excess coating between steps. Place on prepared pan.
- Lightly spritz curds with cooking spray just before placing into air fryer basket. Arrange curs in a single layer in the basket. Refrigerate remaining curds until frying.
- Set timer for 5-7 minutes. Fry curs, removing basket at 3 minutes; flip curds. Cook 2-4 minutes longer or until light brown, crispy and the curds begin to melt. Repeat with remaining curds, starting with a light spritz of cooking spray.
- Serve in a bowl or parchment-lined basket with dipping sauce.
