While the holiday décor has been hung, the food served around the table needs to be just as festive. Although family traditions vary, Freddie Prinze Jr appreciates that a welcoming vibe is just as important as a tasty meal. With a little help from Heluva Good, everyone will remember the spirited conversation as much as the tasty recipes.

Recently, Prinze partnered with Heluva Good to share some simple, yet real, holiday food advice. Even though family traditions can vary, many people can appreciate that some no-fuss holiday recipes and some engaging conversation can make any gathering special.

Prinze spoke to FoodSided about some holiday traditions and one main reason why food brings people together. During this candid conversation, he was not afraid to get to the heart of the matter.

When asked why he thinks food brings people together during the holiday season, Prinze made a bold statement. Simply, stated he believes that “everybody wants to eat at someone’s who cooks better than they do.” He believes that this cooking is “one of the reasons why (his) wife is still married to me.” As the cookbook author stated, “I can cook better than she does.”

Although not everyone can be that cooking expert, the holiday season can bring people around the table. Prinze shared that his home is an open door for everyone. For him, this holiday tradition is all about creating a sense of community.

As Prinze explained, his tradition has been to be that “straggler house” where anyone who might not be able to be home with their other family can come to his house and share a meal. That sense of community seems to get to the heart of the holiday season. Family and traditions are tied to a sense of community and gathering together to celebrate.

When that big group gatherings, it can be hard to juggle everyone’s food preferences. But, Prinze had a straightforward response that could take the stress out of the holiday season. Simply he said, “there is no way to appease everyone’s needs.” Even if the host wants to be accommodating, that sentiment is an important reminder.

Prinze told a story about his mom and a Thanksgiving dinner. During high school, he brought home his then girlfriend at the time. While the girl was a vegetarian, his mom was not serving a vegetarian meal. While the “almighty Kathy Prinze” emphatically said that she had to eat the food as prepared or she wouldn’t be eating there again might be a little cut and dry, the story has merit. Creating a food menu around one person is not necessarily the right choice.

Still, the holiday season shouldn’t be served with a side of stress. While Prinze admitted that “everyone might be a little programmed to that stress,” everyone has to learn to deal with the hand that they are dealt. Good, bad or indifferent the holidays will come and go and people will enjoy themselves.

In some ways, that mindset is the reasoning why a few shortcuts, like the Heluva Good holiday kit could be the perfect solution. Whether it lessens the stress or just offers some tasty food and recipes, that “gift” might be the best present unwrapped this holiday season.

What does Freddie Prinze Jr wish for everyone this holiday season? He encourages everyone to be grateful for the smaller things. That touch of positivity and being on the “right side of the dirt” is a sentiment that everyone can appreciate both during the holidays and beyond.
