While many people watch episode after episode of Guy Fieri’s Food Network shows, the new Guy’s Chance of a Lifetime premiere is not just another dash through a grocery store or a group of chef’s battling for a champions belt. For many people aspiring to make it in the restaurant world, this Food Network show proves that the person in charge has to master ever aspect of the restaurant.

According to Food Network, Guy’s Chance of a Lifetime premiere, “Picked, Plucked and Ready to Fly or Fry,” features the following:

"Guy Fieri plucks six job candidates from across the U.S. and introduces them to his esteemed emissaries. Out of the gate, the candidates are feisty and determined to win, and the air of competition ratchets up a notch when an unexpected seventh candidate arrives, causing a big upset! Guy then throws all seven candidates right into training at Chicken Guy!, and their first challenge is to learn the CG! food items and line and then feed a crowd of hungry customers. Some of the candidates fumble and fry while others rise to the top and fly into Guy’s favor. They’re all awarded varying prizes in their new Show Wallets, but Guy wants everyone to have an equal opportunity at the big prize, so there are no eliminations."

While there will be much said about who has an edge to win, the drama among the competitors and a variety of other items, the reality is that this competition could be the way for restaurant guests to better appreciate the struggle that restaurant owners and employees face every day. Although Restaurant Hustle and its subsequent follow-up shared the stories of well-known chefs, the reality is that program is just a small glimpse.

Watching the contestants struggle to push out orders, learn the various stations and handle guests, the reality is that a successful restaurant owner can jump into any hole and fill it. That ability to adapt in order to achieve to key. Even when tired, that appreciation of work is never done till everything is clean is one of the many tenants to a business that will thrive.

As the show tackles various aspects of earning that final prize of a Chicken Guy franchise, this Food Network show might serve as a roadmap for anyone who wants to join the restaurant industry. More importantly, it might cause guests to have a little more empathy for that long wait at dinner. It is hard work and sometimes a thankless job.

There will be many entertaining moments served on the Guy’s Chance of a Lifetime premiere, but maybe there will be a few extra takeaways that viewers will appreciate.

Guy’s Chance of a Lifetime airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. and can be streamed on Discovery+.
