For one UK resident, the crown of Platinum Pudding Winner will the theirs. In some ways, it is everyone’s opportunity to be part of their own version of the Great British Bake-off. Which dessert will be fit for the Queen?

According to a Vanity Farm article, the Big Jubilee Lunch and Fortnum and Mason will accept recipe submissions for the Platinum Pudding. The contest is open to UK residents 8 years old and older. While the recipe must be “fit for a Queen,” it must be worthy of the occasion. A witty name that lacks flavor will not pass muster.

Choosing the finalist is a panel of impressive judges. Dame Mary Barry, Roger Pizey and several others will be narrowing the field to the final five.

What would give the Platinum Pudding winner an edge?

Before speculating on what the judges crave, it is best to discuss what is a pudding. While some people think of pudding as a general term for dessert, it isn’t that simplistic. There are many types and varieties of puddings, and they do not necessarily mean an creamy delight served in a bowl.

According to Fortnum and Mason, puddings can be bread pudding, based pudding, boiled and steamed pudding, battered puddings, milk puddings and jellies. With so many options, it can be hard to narrow the category in a meaningful way.

But, this recipe contest is more than an impeccable dish that would wow a group under that garden tent. The Platinum pudding must take into account the celebration. If it is a dessert for a monarch, it needs to have impeccable presentation, elevated flavors and yet still be well-loved by everyone. It is a tall task to create that perfect dessert.

Although this dish will be part of the celebration, it is more than just a recipe for the ages. It needs to represent a connection. As part of the competition, the story behind the pudding is just as important as the impressive flavor.

Anyone who submits is asked to share why this recipe is fit for the occasion. From a special connection to a memorable story, the best dishes are ones rooted in strong connections. Just like that family recipe passed down from generation to generation, it is the legacy that makes each taste even sweeter.

Who will be the Platinum Pudding winner? Only time will tell but it will be a recipe that is worthy of the crown.
