Any way that you slice it, pizza might be a universally loved food. But, many people are quite particular about their favorite pie. According to a recent Papa Johns survey, football fans are most likely to order this type of pizza.

As the big game approaches, pizza is often part of the menu. While many restaurants will have specials, the big game host needs to account for everyone’s preferences. From favorite toppings to pizza styles, it might not be quite as easy as serving a plate of chicken wings.

Recently, Papa Johns compiled some interesting facts about football fans and pizza preferences. Since the big game usually sees a spike in pizza orders, this info is quite timely.

According to the 4,000 football fans, 86% prefer NY Style pizza. In addition, 35% are going to fold that slice. Unfortunately, deep dish, Detroit and thin crust might be outvoted when that pizza order is placed.

Even Mark Sanchez, former professional football player, agreed with the NY Style pizza and the folded eating style. Sanchez said, “After spending five years playing in New York, NY Style pizza became my go-to, sorry sideline hot dog, My preferred approach is to fold the pizza slice but everyone’s got their own style.”

The survey found there are many food preferences regarding that slice. While NY Style pizza might be preferred, many football fans eat the crust first. Maybe it is part carb-loading or maybe it is just easier to eat. No matter the reason, it stops food waste.

Of course, pepperoni once again scores with football fans. It seems that pepperoni is always the preferred topping choice in many surveys.

And, what about disliked pizza toppings? Pineapple might be one of the most controversial pizza toppings. According to the survey, only 1 in 10 respondents are pro-pineapple.

Lastly, if all this pizza talk made people hungry, Papa Johns has you covered. Anyone can tweet the company with #WhatsYourStyle #sweepstakes now through February 16 for a chance to win pizza for a year.
