As Super Bowl LVI approaches, the growing excitement is more than just an anticipation of who will raise the Lombardi Trophy and what will be unveiled during the Pepsi Halftime show. Ahead of the event, Pepsi and Mister Cartoon revealed a special lowrider and limited edition can that celebrate not just the event but make a connection to the West Coast culture.

Although Super Bowls may not have a theme, the location can influence some of the events. Given that this year’s event is held in Los Angeles, the West Coast has woven its vibe into the event beyond the glitz and glam of celebrities in attendance.

With the quintet of West Coast style hip hop artists commanding the halftime show performance, the performance is more than just a nod to a particular beat or a lyric that everyone knows. The West Coast culture extends beyond the music.

Recently, Pepsi and Mister Cartoon unveiled a 1967 Chevy Impala transformed into the classic LA lowrider style by the celebrated artist. As seen in this video, the lowrider is more than the lines in the graphics or how the car drops. It is a connection between community and culture.

As seen in the video, Mister Cartoon says how hip hop was a way for people to express themselves. The simple beats that started in the streets were more than just a diversion. It developed into a culture.

Over time, a connection grew between hip hop and lowriders. Even in the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime preview video “The Call” shows the iconic ride. While the car drop might coordinate with a beat, it is more than just a captivating visual. It is a whole vibe.

Looking at this Pepsi and Mister Cartoon collaboration it showcases the artistic side. While the visual can captures people’s attention, the hope is that it sparks a conversation beyond just that initial moment.

The conscious decision to use elements that appeal to all encourages that sense of communities coming together. In a divided time, finding common ground is more important than ever.

Since the lowrider might not be driving through everyone’s neighborhood, the limited release, collectible Pepsi cans designed by Mister Cartoon were an opportunity to have that art on the shelf. Although these cans were part of a giveaway, it invites a bigger conversation.

The Pepsi x Mister Cartoon cans could start a new way of the iconic beverage brand to foster a bigger community conversation. While the brand has had various collaborations over the years, this artistic version could be just the start. Why couldn’t communities celebrate their vision of a Pepsi can as a reflection what that beverage means to them. Although many people appreciate that the classic cola beverage goes with everything, it could be nice to see how the beverage is seen within different communities.

For now, be sure to watch the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, February 13, 2022. The event can also be watched via the event app which offers special features.
