Whether it is exploring the great outdoors or just quenching a thirst, Mountain Dew has always been a favorite choice. From that classic citrus forward flavor to the tropical flavors of that Baja Blast, there are many reasons to enjoy that beverage. Now, with the new Hard MTN DEW, those favorite flavors have been transformed into an alcoholic beverage that has everyone toasting to the DEW life.
Over the past couple of years, many people have looked to transform that classic Mountain Dew beverage into something more. While the Red Lobster has had a MTN DEW cocktail and the beverage has been showcased in the brand’s cookbook, it seems that there is always a reason to have at least a few cans in the fridge.
With the new Hard MTN DEW, the alcoholic beverage seems to be embracing beverage trend. While hard seltzers have crowded the shelf, hard sodas seem be gaining popularity. It seems to be a way to bring that cocktail vibe to a more convenient serving option. Although not exactly a soda and spirit, it offers a classic soda flavor that appeals to some more than the traditional seltzer.
Speaking to The Boston Beer Company and PepsiCo collaboration, Lesya Lysyi, CMO of The Boston Beer Company, said, this offering meets the “evolving demands of U.S. drinkers.” Lysyi describes the beverage as the “bold, citrus flavors of the soft drink fans know and love” with a 5% ABV.
Which Hard MTN DEW flavor should you crack open first?
Launching with four flavors, original MTN DEW, Baja Blast, Black Cherry and Watermelon, the beverages seem to bridge the familiar and new. While many people might have a particular favorite Mountain Dew flavor, these four options seem to have to been chosen to have a wide appeal.
For anyone who enjoys the classic MTN DEW, that flavor might be the best starting point. Although this alcoholic beverage doesn’t have caffeine, it has the flavor that people expect. It is crisp, refreshing and that citrus forward flavor that people have come to love.
Although Watermelon would be nice with some barbecue or a summer picnic, the Black Cherry is a real winner with some hearty food off the grill. Consider pairing this option with some ribs or even barbecue chicken. It is lovely contrast of sweet and bold.
Lastly, it seems likely that the Baja Blast flavor might be the most popular offering. That beverage with a long-storied history seems to embrace the hard side well. Whether sipped at the beach or enjoyed while chilling on the couch, it works with almost everything.
More importantly, it pairs well with a wide variety of food options. From those tacos to even some spicy noodles, it might be the most versatile option of the variety pack.
The new Hard MTN Dew is available in 12-pack mixed pack of 12 oz cans and 24 oz single serving cans. A serving is 100 calories and has a 5% ABV. For the launch, the beverages are available in Florida, Iowa and Tennesse. The offering will expand throughout the year.
