While mom always said to eat your vegetables, some food options are preferred over others. Even if eating the rainbow is part of the routine, one or two vegetables can be a more welcome sight on the plate. But, do you know what is America’s most trusted veggie?

From that dinner salad to crudité, some vegetables are eaten first. Even if people know that kale is a super food, it might be eaten with a grimace. In contrast, other options, like a cucumber or green bean might be gobbled up more quickly.

Recently, Bolthouse Farms surveyed 2,000 people to determine the most trusted veggie. While the garden might soon be blooming this springtime, the reality is that one vegetable was clearly the top choice. And, it was the carrot.

As Adam Hellstern, Sr. Director, Ag Strategy & Marketing at Bolthouse Farms, said, “Packed with nutrients, carrots are versatile, convenient and good for you. They’re the only veggie out there that can be considered beneficial brain food and delicious enough to be called comfort food at the same time. Americans’ relationship with food is focused on healthy eating plus great taste, and carrots bring both to the table.”

The total survey results were quite telling. 69% of Americans seek out the carrots over several other choices. From the first food fed to their kids to enjoy carrots as a snack, its versatility is highly regarded.

Thinking about carrots, there are plenty of reasons to always have some in the refrigerator. Who hasn’t munched on carrot sticks, even dipped them in ranch?

More importantly, carrots are easy to cook. From a simple sauté to steamed to numerous other ways, the carrot can meld into a variety of recipes. Given the familiarity, few people are afraid to cook with it. Even if it is used as a base to a dish, it adds that touch of flavorful sweetness that people enjoy.

As people reflect on carrots being named America’s most trusted veggie, it might be time to rethink that vegetable on the plate. While it might be a constant for entertaining or snacking, it might be time to push the conversation forward a little more. Whether it is the first time making a carrot puree or exploring a bold seasoning, the familiar allows experimentation to be a little more bold.

In the end, this Bolthouse Farms survey might have proved something that everyone appreciates. Carrots should always available and ready to enjoy.
