As summer fun approaches, many people are wondering what beverages will be filling the cooler and fridge. Although many people have their signature cocktail, Instacart weighs in on the official Drink of Summer. Better get the koozie ready.

Recently, Instacart surveyed 2,000 over 21 year old Americans and found that almost 65% of alcohol consumers drink more during nice weather. In addition, summer season shows that 66% of drinkers are willing to pour a new beverage. Something about the warm weather makes people more adventurous.

According to the survey, Instacart declared canned cocktails the Drink of Summer. As Laurentia Romaniuk, Instacart’s Trends Expert said, “With summertime travel reaching new heights this year, whether folks are adventuring far from home or gathering in a loved one’s backyard, we believe convenience, price point, and new, buzzy options will be key factors when deciding which beverages to purchase.”

As canned cocktails continue to take over the shelf, consumers are appreciating the variety and convenience. Even though many people mastered those mixology skills, the grab and drink convenience cannot be matched, especially for summer.

Whether it is a margarita, gin and tonic or even a bourbon cocktail, the variety is as diverse as a great cocktail menu. Instacart’s 100% increase in sales over the past year proves that people have been thirsty for these beverage options.

While canned cocktails might be Instacart’s Drink of Summer, another beverage might have lost its fizz. The survey found that “1 in 3 alcohol consumers say they are officially over hard seltzers.” Even though hard seltzer brands continue to add innovative flavors and expand their lines, it appears that the hard seltzer bubble might have burst.

Although these beverage trends make for engaging conversation, consumers want to drink flavors that they prefer. New and exciting can entice the first sip, but the return drink is dependent on delivering that satisfaction. Convenience and cost-effective may not drive another purchase if the taste doesn’t deliver.

For now, it appears that canned cocktails are having a moment. It might not be the only chilled beverage option, but it is going to be a popular choice for this summer.
