Food and sports often go hand in hand. From the stadium menus with their unique flavor combinations to the tailgate before the game, all the cheering makes people hungry. With the FIFA World Cup games set to begin in Qatar, many soccer fans are looking to bring a taste of the global experience to the home watching parties. These new Frito-Lay World Cup inspired flavors will have everyone raising a bag in victory.

Over the years, Frito-Lay has impressed snack fans with a variety of creative flavors. From the flavor mash-ups to the innovative takes on food trends, the favorite brands have found ways to blend the familiar and the new.

As the first salty-snack brand to collaborate with FIFA and the FIFA World Cup, these limited-edition Lay’s snacks celebrate bold, yet approachable flavors. Borrowing from some popular global flavors, both soccer fans and snack lovers will want to purchase a couple of bags.

According to Tina Mahal, senior vice president of marketing, Frito-Lay North America said, “Soccer is the fastest growing sport in North America, and with snacking so intrinsically tied to the at-home viewing experience, now is the perfect moment to enter the tame and offer our consumers new ways to heighten their FIFA World Cup experience. As teams around the world compete in the FIFA World Cup, we wanted to provide a way to connect fans over their love of the game – and love of snacks – to deliver even more smiles throughout the tournament.”

What are the three new Frito-Lay World Cup inspired flavors?

The new limited edition flavors include Lay’s Adobadas, Lay’s Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Popper, and Lay’s Wavy Carnitas Street Tacos. Although the names give a glimpse into the expected eating experience, the flavor nuance is something that people will want to try.

For example, Lay’s Adobadas captures the vibrancy of the Latin dish. Combining chili, tomato, and lime, a single bite hits bright, savory and spicy. While these chips might be tasty paired with a guacamole, they are equally delightful on their own.

The Lay’s Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Popper captures the classic pub fare appetizer in a single bite. With a hint of smoky BBQ, the jalapeno kick is apparent. For someone who loves that appetizer, but doesn’t the mess, these chips are a must.

Plus, consider using the chip crumbs as a topping on a casserole or even as a coating for a chicken. As more and more people are considerate of food waste, no chip should be left behind.

Lastly, the Wavy Carnitas Street Tacos flavor might be the chip to dip. That robust taco style pork flavor would be great with some queso. In some ways, it could inspire a new approach to the classic Mexican street food.

The new Frito-Lay World Cup inspired flavors will be available for a limited time. Check with retailers or online for bag sizes, pricing, and more.

In addition, Frito-Lay will be hosting the Pass the Ball Challenge. This special interactive platform will give fans a chance to feel even more connected to the action in Qatar.
