As one of the most celebrated food television competitions, what some have called the “gold standard” is back on Bravo. Top Chef Season 20 episode 1 has jetted off to Great Britian for this international chef competition. Bringing together Top Chef winners and finalists from around the globe, in the words of Tom Colicchio, this season just got really serious.

According to Bravo, Top Chef Season 20 episode 1, “London Calling” features the following:

"To celebrate the 20th season, “Top Chef” returns for an international showdown in London; sixteen competitors, including previous winners and finalists, face off in the fiercest showdown the culinary series has seen."

While that description does not share a lot of information regarding the episode, this clip might offer some additional insight on what viewers can expect in the Top Chef Season 20 premiere as well as throughout the season.

Given that all these chefs have had success on the food television competition, the bar is beyond raised. Although each country’s show might be slightly different, the chefs know how to perform in the moment. Quick thinking, adaptability, and creativity are essential for any chef to do well.

Even though this season might be a version of “global” top chef, there is something to be said about how food unites people and culture. While the chefs might have different flavor profiles, cooking techniques, and ingredients, the sentiment behind that dish can be appreciated by all.

More importantly, the challenges should give food television fans a better glimpse into different ingredients, approaches, and interpretations of food. Although some people might not have the opportunity to sit at one of these chefs’ tables, they might be able to bring something they see on screen into their own kitchen. Being open to new experiences is one of the reasons why Top Chef is and continues to be an influential food television program.

Looking at the 16 chefs hoping to earn the Top Chef Season 20 title, it is impossible to predict a potential winner. It could come down to the type of challenge and possibly a little luck. All of these cheftestants are capable of winning, but no one can have a bad day.

Since Top Chef Season 20 is a momentous occasion, each episode will be supersized. Be sure to watch Top Chef Season 20 episode 1 on Thursday, March 9 at 9 p.m. EST or stream it on Peacock the following day.
