While that sandwich and soup might always be a lunch favorite, Panera has a new menu offering that is bringing big flavor to the plate. The new Southwest Caesar Salad with Chicken joins the returning Strawberry Poppyseed Salad. When these veggies are so flavorful, it is easy to eat another serving of salad.

From warmer weather to craving lighter food, salads and spring often go hand in hand. After months of wanting robust flavors that felt comforting during cold months, people’s taste preferences change. With a bounty coming from the garden, it is the perfect time to enjoy all those fruits and vegetables.

By highlighting two salads on its menu, Panera shows that people want to have choices. While that gooey good grilled cheese sandwich might satisfy a craving one day, another meal might have a lighter take. Both are equally as tasty, just enjoyed at different times.

According to Claes Petersson, Head Chef and Chief Culinary Innovation Officer, Panera Bread, “Panera’s southwest spin on Caesar salad takes the flavor to new levels—adding spice and a unique crunch that turn this classic dish into an exciting new offering I think our guests are going to love. And of course we’re always happy to see Strawberry Poppyseed Salad back on the menu for the season – not only is it a perennial guest favorite, it’s a sign the flavors of summer are right around the corner.”

The new Southwest Caesar Salad with Chicken features grilled chicken on top of romaine lettuce, which was tossed in a classic Caesar dressing. The Southwest flavors are brought in with avocado, a chipotle aioli and some blue corn tortillas strips.

While the tortilla strips offer extra texture in each bite, it is the chipotle aioli that sets this salad apart. That touch of smoky heat with the creamy Caesar dressing is a winner. In some ways, that chipotle aioli could be the secret sauce to boost a variety of recipes.

Joining the new Southwest Caesars Salad with Chicken is the always popular Strawberry Poppyseed Salad. While some people cannot get enough of that poppyseed dressing, it is the combination of sweet, juicy fruits with the crisp romaine that makes this salad enjoyable. Plus, with the chicken, the salad has a lovely balance of protein and produce. It is bright, refreshing and always satisfying.

These Panera menu items return on April 5. MyPanera members can get the first taste of the new Caesars salad at restaurants now.
