Next Level Chef Season 2 episode 13 exclusive clip: Sink or swim with surf and turf
With the finale within their grasp, Next Level Chef Season 2 episode 13 has the chefs taking on a classic challenge, surf and turf. Although duality dishes are often the downfall of chefs on food television competitions, this group needs to make a harmonious pairing on the plate. One chef might feel as if she is swimming upstream, but the outcome might be worth the effort.
According to FOX, Next Level Chef Season 2 episode 13, “Surf and Turf,” features the following:
"In this week’s challenge, the chefs are asked to reimagine an old classic: surf and turf. The remaining contestants will be judged on their interpretation of a land and sea animal that puts a new, exciting twist on a familiar favorite. One chef uses the final time token of the season in the all-new “Surf and Turf” episode of Next Level Chef airing Thursday, May 4 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX."
While some people think of surf and turf as steak and lobster or shrimp, there are many more possible combinations. From lamb to veal to even venison, the turf is not just beef. But, pairing one of those proteins with a “surf” can be a little trickier for the chefs, which means the platform pick is vital.
Over the past couple of episodes, the Time Token has become more of a curse than a benefit. While Omi has the advantage to use in this episode, the situation might come back to haunt her. Whether or not she uses the advantage to add to her time or to take time away from another chef remains to be seen. But, she might want to watch her back in the kitchen. That Time Token might have some bad vibes attached to it.
Since the platform pick will be vital to this surf and turf challenge, the basement chefs might be at a big disadvantage. In this exclusive clip provided to FoodSided, one chef might have chosen what was available, but the combination might be worthy of the top kitchen.
The combination of veal and tuna is classic. Although Mehreen might not be familiar with a tonnato, it is dish loved by many chefs. It is far from some pink sauce on a plate. The elevated flavor is quite lovely.
The bigger takeaway from this clip is that the chefs on the other levels might not have made the best platform grab. Cooking a veal chop in the limited time might be hard, but tuna could be a great choice for a surf and turf. Did someone miss an opportunity?
