A McDonald’s Happy Meal comes with an opportunity beyond eating a tasty hamburger or some of those world famous fries. From the toys to the box, itself, it plays to kids’ imagination. The characters on the screen can be thrust into all types of engaging situations. With the McDonald’s Little Mermaid Happy Meal, it celebrates the dreamer who makes waves wherever they choose to journey.

The McDonald’s Little Mermaid Happy Meal celebrates some of the movie’s characters, including Ariel, Eric, Sebastian, and Flounder. While this group might not be one of those poor unfortunate souls, the reality is that the Happy Meal is more than just a toy and a meal. It is about giving guests an opportunity to embrace what is possible.

As Jennifer “JJ” Healan, VP of U.S. Marketing, Brand, Content, and Culture at McDonald’s said, “At McDonald’s, inclusivity, imagination, and joy live in the DNA of every Happy Meal. For years we have worked with Disney to bring magic to life every day. ‘The Little Mermaid’ Happy Meal is an extension of that collaboration where even more fans can see themselves reflected in profound possibility and feel encouraged to dream big and make waves.”

To mark the launch of the new Little Mermaid Happy Meal, McDonald’s revealed a new commercial showcasing Black Girl Surf. According to Rhonda Harper, Founder of Black Girls Surf, “This commercial with McDonald’s is a visual reminder that we are all little mermaids.”

Seeing that representation on the screen is important. It might sound simplistic, but the visual fosters the belief that anything is possible. The first people might have to fight the big break, but everyone can be wavemakers in their own way.

As people watch the movie, order the food, or watch the commercial, it helps to bridge the gap between the dream and the reality. Disney magic might be built on wishing upon a star, but it is rooted in dreams coming true.

The McDonald’s Little Mermaid Happy Meal is available at participating restaurants while supplies last.
