After making it through the first episode, The Great American Recipe Season 2 episode 2 is back with two new challenges. While pasta might be a staple across cultures, one home cook chooses an ambitious recipe. Will the risk be worth the reward?

In the first episode of The Great American Recipe Season 2, the PBS food television audience was introduced to a very diverse group of home cooks. As the home cooks introduced themselves with personal recipes and regional favorites, the judges were given a glimpse into their culinary point of view. While the dishes were mostly successful, the different approaches and the varied flavors showcased that the American food scene is far from one note.

In The Great American Recipe Season 2 episode 2, pasta takes center stage. As seen in this exclusive clip, Brad chooses to make his own pasta. Will making pasta from scratch reap big rewards?

After having a top dish in the first episode, Brad is pushing himself with a difficult task. Choosing to make pasta dough is not easy given the pressure and time constraints. Even though gnocchi might be slightly easier than a traditional dough, this offering seems to go awry. Whether or not he can save the dough remains to be seen.

While the cooking technique will impact the dish’s success, the story surrounding this particular offering leans into what makes The Great American Recipe important. The connection between Italy and Libya is one that is not often discussed. These types of moments reaffirm that notion of food as a family archive, in addition to being a celebration of food and culture.

Although no one was sent home in the first episode, it can be assumed that someone will leave the barn in The Great American Recipe Season 2 episode 2. Even though this PBS food television show is the kinder, gentler, culinary competition, there is no hiding from poorly executed dish. As judge Leah Cohen mentioned, those scenarios are easier to offer feedback because the cooks cannot hide mistakes like raw chicken.

Will Brad’s gnocchi come together for this pasta challenge? Be sure to tune into The Great American Recipe Season 2 episode 2 on PBS, Monday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET or stream online.
