Frozen Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers leverage the brand’s fastest growing beverage

While Starbucks has a myriad of coffee options, many people look off the menu to sip their unique beverage. Although the app has made customization easier for Starbucks partners, all those orders have given the food brand tremendous insight into what customers want. As the new Frozen Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers hit stores, the three new beverages blend customization with food trends.

Speaking to the three new flavors, Matt Thornton, senior beverage developer at Starbucks, “Since Starbucks Refreshers Beverages joined the menu in 2012, our customers and partners (baristas) have creatively customized their beverages, such as adding coconutmilk, lemonade or blending with ice. Inspired by these customer and partner creations, we’re excited to bring the new Frozen Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverages to the permanent menu this summer.”

The new Frozen Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers are available in three flavors, Frozen Strawberry Açai Lemonade, Frozen Pineapple Passionfruit Lemonade, and Frozen Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade. Looking at the three flavors, the tropical influence is clear. While it might not necessarily be a vacation in a cup, there is a sense of escapism shaken into that pour.

Looking at the three flavors, they build on offerings that have been on the Starbucks menu. While the frozen aspect could appeal to Frappuccino fans, it is really about the combination of bold flavors and colors that will get people excited.

More importantly, it leans into combinations that already have a fan base. If someone loved last year’s Pineapple Passionfruit, they might opt to try this new frozen beverage. It heightens the probability of a positive response and a menu winner.

In addition, these offerings lean into the growing lemonade trend. Across quick service restaurants, lemonade has been taking over the beverage conversation. Fruit influenced, blended options are everywhere. Given that Starbucks wants to ensure that customers have more thirst quenchers on warm days, it makes sense that it would expand into the lemonade category.
