While national food days are often an excuse to celebrate with a special treat, Krispy Kreme’s birthday is an occasion to indulge in doughnuts. On July 14, it is time to put down the French fries and push away the bowl of macaroni and cheese. Friday is all about the 86 cent dozens.
When Vernon Rudolph began selling doughnuts in 1937, the idea was simple. The tempting aroma of hot, fresh doughnuts would be irresistible to consumers. Although the concept was simple, it had lasting power. Anyone who has felt their stomach grumble at just a whiff of that sweetness can attest to the longevity of that simple concept.
To celebrate its 86th birthday, Krispy Kreme will be offering a special deal on July 14. As Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme said, “We love treating our fans and celebrating our birthday with them every year. It definitely has become a tradition. Gifting fans a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 86 cents when they buy any dozen is a pretty sweet way to celebrate 86 years of delicious doughnuts.”
With the purchase of a dozen, guests can purchase a second dozen for 86 cents. They can purchase up to four dozen either in shop or via the drive-thru. Online orders are limited to just one dozen.
The special promotion is another example how Krispy Kreme engages with its customers. From special limited time, seasonal flavors to collaboration with popular candy brands, every week there is another reason to head to the store. Even though the Original Glazed is iconic, that flavor never gets stale. Without the classic offering, all the other items would not be part of the conversation.
Looking ahead to the next year, it will be interesting to see how Krispy Kreme leverages its position. No matter what arrives in that box, everyone will be lining up to make a purchase and enjoy that taste.
