Cap’n Crunch gets a new look for his 60th birthday

As the beloved cereal turns 60, Cap’n Crunch is getting a new look for the occasion. While the seafaring character has gone on many journeys beyond the cereal bowl, one item was missing. Now, the Cap’n is getting that extra stripe he deserves.

Although the stripes on the epaulettes can be a heated conversation on Bravo’s Below Deck, the Cap’n deserves his rank. As many observant fans have noticed, the beloved cereal character was missing a stripe. Luckily, ahead of his 60th birthday, that uniform issue is being resolved.

As Kristin Kroepfl, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Quaker Foods North America at PepsiCo said, “With the celebration of Cap’n Crunch’s 60th birthday this year, we thought it was only fitting to commemorate his epic 60 years of tasty adventures with a fresh new look. What better way to unveil the beloved Cap’n Crunch’s new four-striped look than with his cosplaying Crunchmates around one of the most iconic pop culture events of the year?!”

Cap’n Crunch’s jacket now has four stripes, a designation for a true captain’s jacket. As he pilots the S.S. Guppy on the next great adventure, the beloved cereal character can join all the other seafaring pop culture captains with his proper rank.

The new look was unveiled in San Diego. As 60 cosplay players lined the steps, everyone was ready to grab their spoon and fuel up for a new adventure.

The change to the iconic cereal character shows how observant many food fans are. Although some people might not be playing smooth jazz while enjoying that cereal, others are happy to share how the Cap’n loves that style of music. Or, they can easily recount how the Cap’n Crunch has the upper hand against his nemesis Jean LaFoote. That longstanding rivalry has been going on for decades.

Now that Cap’n Crunch has his fourth stripe, it is time to head out to the high seas for the next chapter. With Sea Dog by his side, there is smooth sailing ahead.
