As 2023 NFL season is set to begin, a few NFL Legends consider leaving the couch’s comforts and choose to step back onto the gridiron. In the newest PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay football commercial, several iconic players see how far the game has come since they last took to the field.

Over the years, PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay football commercials have brought humor to the snack conversation. Whether it was riding the bus to title town or seeing a new way to enjoy some of those iconic food and beverage pairings, the reality is that football watching and favorite snacks and sodas are always a winning combination.

Speaking to the latest campaign, Greg Lyons, chief marketing officer of PepsiCo Beverages North America said, “Our brands are synonymous with the gameday experience. Gameday is about enjoying friends, family and football – getting lost in the excitement and those moments when the pop of a can or the first crunch of a chip is heard. So, for the kickoff of the 2023 season, we’re amplifying that excitement even more by bringing together an iconic lineup of talent, snacks, and beverages that only PepsiCo can deliver.”

What NFL Legends are in the new PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay football commercial?

Even though many football fans have their preferred team, NFL Legends crossover those deeply rooted rivalries. In the moment, people might never clap for that impressive first down or goal line stop, but they do have an appreciation for the skill and determination that is associated with their play.

In the new commercial, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Dan Marino, Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, and Emmitt Smith ponder what it might be like to put on the pads once again. Although the senior citizen comments might be a little difficult to hear, there are moments where the older generation gets their digs. Although no one should be sleeping on the bench, the good laugh is a celebration of the NFL’s past, present, and future.

Of course, the last-minute Tom Brady cameo will have everyone reacting. It seems like the “unretirement” conversation for that player has finally been tabled.

While the commercial is funny, it is more than just curious vignettes spliced together to bring a laugh. It serves as a reminder that food and beverages cross team alliances, age gaps, and backgrounds. Even though NFL football legends might not be sitting on a fan’s couch during gameday, everyone might be opening a bag of Lay’s or sipping a Pepsi.

The NFL Legends “Unretirement” PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay football commercial debuts on September 10. It is a continuation of the PepsiCo and NFL partnership.
