When a legend from the gridiron partners with an award-winning whiskey brand, that bottle pours a celebrated liquor worthy of life’s most momentous events. The new Joe Montana Whiskey Collection from Gold Bar Whiskey arrives at the start of the NFL season. Whether drunk to toast another San Fransisco 49ers victory or a personal triumph, the triple casked American whiskey will quickly become a must have bottle.

Although it has been a while since Joe Montana has thrown a touchdown pass on the field, the legendary Notre Dame and San Fransisco 49ers quarterback is an endearing figure in the sports world. One of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, his list of accolades is long. From MVPs to Super Bowl and National Championship victories, Montana has rightfully earned his legendary title.

In recent years, Montana has stepped back into the spotlight with collaborations that reflect his sports career. His Guinness partnership leveraged the Notre Dame connection in a way that resonated not only with fans of the college but also with beer drinkers.

With the new Joe Montana Whiskey Collection, the Gold Bar Whiskey offerings bring a nod to the distillery’s craftsmanship both in and on the bottle. From the numerical connections to the nuanced flavors, these special releases will have both sports fans and whiskey drinkers adding the releases to their collection.

Speaking to the collaboration, Joe Montana said, “From the unique flavor profiles to the meaningful blend numbers and creative designs, the collection will offer a variety of selections for a gameday beverage, with a twist of nostalgia. I’m looking forward to sharing the whiskey, as well as the experience of Gold Bar’s incredible new Visitor Center here in San Francisco, with fans.”

Crafted by Master Blender Montgomery Paulsen, the Napa Valley wine maker’s background influences each offering. The nuance of red wine barrels and cognac barrels highlight the liquor’s berry and fruit notes. While the robust spice rounds out the flavors, it is a taste that makes drinker recall the richness of celebrated memories.

The first release is the Gold Bar Whiskey’s Joe Montana Blend No. 273. Although football fans might appreciate the number reference, it acknowledges Montana’s total career touchdown passes. In addition, the bottle artwork includes Montana’s signature with a replica of the 70s/80s vintage 49ers logo, and an artistic rendering of the Super Bowl XXIV touchdown celebration. The Blend No. 273 release has a suggested retail price of $59.99.

Arriving in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Gold Bar Whiskey’s Joe Montana Blend No. 117 is a nod to Montana’s jersey number and the whiskey’s age, 16 years, and Montana’s 117 career wins. At a substantial 95 proof, the limited-edition release is robust in flavor and aroma. While the characteristic spice is still forefront, the dried fruit and apricot bring an inviting quality to the drinking enjoyment. The Gold Bar Whiskey’s Joe Montana Blend No. 117 has a suggested retail price of $149.99.

Each Joe Montana Whiskey Collection bottle will feature a consumer interactive element called “The Patch.” The special chip will unlock exclusive content, including a step-by-step recipe for The Golden Joe” made with Gold Bar Whiskey. It is another way to engage whiskey drinkers with the overall experience of the collection.

The Joe Montana Whiskey Collection will begin to be available in stores this September. The Blend No. 273 launch is a Northern California exclusive, but the Blend No. 117 limited release will be available nationwide.
