Norwegian Cruise Line uses pop culture moments to create a memorable experience
As the Norwegian Cruise Line Viva looks to breathe new life into the cruising getaway, the memorable experience is not limited to the ports of call. From the embarkation to the final steps leaving the ship, the pop culture moments make the on board experience even more memorable.
NCL ships understand that its audience wants to be engaged at every corner. It is more than the delicious dining or the ports of call. The entertainment on board fills the nights with experiences that captivate every moment on board.
When Norwegian Cruise Line unveiled its Prima class, it sought to bring more entertainment to its guests. While the heart beats faster while racing the track and the laughter is more boisterous when playing those interactive game show experiences, the reality is that many people want to gaze upon a story that engages.
On the new NCL Viva, the signature show is Beetlejuice, the Musical. While the interactive shows excite guests with the thrill of laughter, impressive visuals, and high-spirited numbers, the Broadway stage production of the classic movie transformed into the Broadway award-winning musical gives guests a whole new perspective.
Over the years, NCL has brought a myriad of musical experiences to its ships’ stages. As seen on the Prima, the Donna Summer Musical not only shared the story of a music icon but also transformed the space into a vibrant, immersive experience that had people dancing the night away.
On board the NCL Viva, the Beetlejuice Musical experience is more than singing a Harry Belafonte tune. It is a celebration of humor, life, and grasping the opportunities whenever they present themselves.
Although it is unclear how the Broadway musical will adapt to the smaller stage, the experience will have everyone tapping their feet, laughing, and remembering why they love that iconic story.
Whether people appreciate the story about death, the journey of appreciating family connection, or understanding that love conquerors all, the songs and humor will have people engaged. Whether or not it incorporates all the adult improv remains to be seen.
As a Norwegian Cruise Line representative said, “Norwegian Cruise Line strives to deliver exceptional onboard experiences and we are continuing that on Norwegian Viva with “BEETLEJUICE The Musical”. The Tony-Award nominated musical is beyond fun, recreating many of the fan-favorite, nostalgia-inducing scenes from the original movie with the added element of Broadway-caliber musical numbers. We have worked with the Broadway show’s original creative team and it is the biggest production we have ever had on board an NCL ship, from incredible scenery, special effects, puppetry and over-the-top costumes, guests will love this fantastically funny show.”
The addition of Beetlejuice to the NCL entertainment line-up is smart for the brand. It opens the nighttime entertainment to a larger audience. Plus, it will be interesting to see how the theater space embraces its darker side as it transforms the space with the high production value.
As the Norwegian Cruise Line commented, “Norwegian Cruise Line consistently delivers amazing performances for theater fans, introducing guests to Broadway and West End-caliber shows. The elaborate “BEETLEJUICE The Musical” production was chosen as it will charm and captivate guests as performers dance and sing along to show tune classics while also reveling in the nostalgia from the pop culture classic film. The musical’s paranormal antics will be heightened by the three-story multi-purpose Viva Theatre & Club and its immersive special effects and cutting-edge lighting and audio.”
Whether or not that story about death brings a darker, yet humorous vibe to the late night atmosphere remains to be seen. Still, the use of a modern musical with a broad audience appeal is smart for the cruise line.
The Norwegian Cruise Line Viva will continue its inaugural season in the Caribbean. The ship’s godfather is Luis Fonsi and additional details on its special offerings and itineraries can be found online.
