In this season of the popular FOX culinary competition, the chefs seek their ultimate dream job. While drive might be required to succeed, the respect of their peers is vital. As seen in this exclusive clip, Hell’s Kitchen American Dream episode 8 has one person’s goal go up in smoke.

Many skills are required to earn the role as Gordon Ramsay’s executive chef and win Hell’s Kitchen. Superior execution and culinary creativity are just some characteristics. Inspiring others in the kitchen is vital. Whether that is good communication or respect, it is more than just playing a game.

Building on that idea, Gordon Ramsay gives the chefs a task that is not easy. In this exclusive clip provided to FoodSided, Hell’s Kitchen American Dream episode 8 shows how the chefs are rattled.

The clip may not reveal who is or who is not cooking for their life, but the concept is even more revealing. Did the chefs answer honestly or was their game play involved? Some people may use the concept to knock down a competitor while others may truly see flaws in their fellow chefs. How these concepts play out remains to be seen.

In some ways, this task is a vital component to earning the title of Hell’s Kitchen winner. The ability to answer honestly is just one aspect. Seeing strengths and weaknesses within the kitchen brigade is important. No one wants to flounder, have to hold up a weak point, or otherwise not lack confidence in their fellow chefs. There is a difference between helping and doing another person’s work.

As the chefs cook for their lives, the reality is that watching how people perform under pressure gives insight into their ability. Just like there is a big difference between a weekend warrior and a professional athlete, people who have that drive to succeed will rise to the top.

Which chef will fall short in securing the culinary position of a lifetime? Watch Hell’s Kitchen American Dream episode 8 Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. The episode can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
