Whether travel is a business necessity or means to find a vacation escape, an airplane brings all those people together for a few hours. From the battle over the armrest to the longing for people to use their headphones more effectively, a few tasty food and beverages can make the experience flavorful, in a good way. American Airlines is rolling out some new options and travelers are hungry for more.

Airline food and beverages can be a touchy subject. While some companies nickel and dime guests with a fee for everything, others find ways to bring a little extra. Of course, some people would prefer a family size bag of pretzel versus the snack sized option. Still, finding ways to bring value while serving a tasty option is vital to the overall customer experience.

According to a recent American Airlines announcement, the company will be expanding both in flight and Admirals Club lounges menus starting this month. The changes not only reflect guests’ hunger for elevated food and beverage choices, but also the company’s desire to set itself apart from its competitors.

As Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer explained, “As spring travel heats up, our customers are eager to see new food and drinks across our menus. Whereas warm comfort foods like soups rule the skies in the fall and winter, the spring season has people craving fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as tried-and-true summer dishes like our new sliders and fries.”

Many people will be happy to know that the sliders and fries will be available for pre-order on short haul domestic flights. While many people grab that to-go bag before boarding, there is something more satisfying about eating a hot burger and crisp fries than a version that has been sitting in a bag for too long.

Additionally, the breakfast menu is expanding. With five new breakfast options, it is the food fuel to energize the day. Options, like omelets and fritadas, can satisfy that egg craving.

The Admirals Club lounges are embracing their regionality with new breakfast and all-day menu items. From Roasted Jalapeno Hummus in Austin to Orange peel tempura chicken in Los Angeles, the food items give a sense of the city’s culinary culture without having to leave the airport.

The beverage program is getting a refresh, too. New premium beverages get set up behind the bar. These offerings capture current cocktail trends, like the always popular spritz, espresso martini and more.

Also, American Airlines understands that mocktails are equally as vital to its beverage program. The rotating mocktail option is quite exciting. Those beverages capture seasonality and creativity in a single sip.

The food and beverage changes begin this month. Changes to the Admirals Club lounges will appear by March 17. Changes on board flights begin on March 12.
