As a woman who knows how to handle a situation with a witty comeback. Chelsea Handler wants everyone to peer into the deep, dark, depths of their freezer and get a handle on the situation. In collaboration with Yasso, the pair want to take that drawer of despair and turn into a refuge of sweet deliciousness.

The freezer does not have to be the place where good food goes to be covered in ice crystals and be turned into an unidentifiable puck of nothingness. The freezer should be a bastion of goodness, like one that is filled with Yasso stick bars, frozen Greek yogurt sandwiches, and Yasso poppables. After all, when that craving for a treat hits, no one should be digging around for the hidden box of last year’s cookies.

Recently, Yasso partnered with Chelsea Handler to give people the opportunity to “Handle Your Freezer.” Running from April 23 through May 21, the special campaign will help get that freezer on track. With a little help from Taskrabbit and Yasso, the forgotten container of chopped vegetables from 2024 will be replaced with something more flavorful, like a Chocolate Crunch Bar.

Through her collaboration with the Yasso campaign, Chelsea Handler graciously spoke to FoodSided. It has been a big year for Handler. Not only did she release her new book, I’ll Have What She’s Having, a #1 New York Times best seller, she has a new Netflix special, too.

When asked about this Handle Your Freezer campaign from Yasso, Handler said, “you should have control of your freezer. First of all, I live alone, so I do have control over my freezer. For those people who have people running around their house, you want to make sure that your freezer is your domain, especially if you are head of the household.”

Being able to find that box of Yasso in the freezer is key. Handler believes that the food brand’s offerings are a “joyful treat.” For her, it is the “nicest way to end my evening.” Whether it is the salted caramel or mint chocolate chip, there is a flavor for every craving.

For Handler, she wants everyone to change their mindset about enjoying these sweet food treats. Specifically, she said, “I think that it is a nice way to say to yourself, I deserve this. It is a way to give yourself a boost when you need it. Whether it is energy, comfort, or just something else, it can be that little pick me up.”

That positive mindset is something that Handler supports wholeheartedly. She explained, “we need to embrace the yes. We need to spread that message to more women. There are healthy choices, healthy rewards. We do not have to limit ourselves. I never want to say, I can’t have this.” For Handler, it is all about options that bring together great flavor without putting a limit on enjoyment.

Handler continued, “I wasted my early years, my 20s and my 30s obsessing about what I put into my body and obsessing about exercise. I'm healthier, more fit, and happier in my life than I've ever been. It is because I stopped limiting myself and I stopped having negative thoughts around food. It should be joyful, it should be shareable. Food is something to make you feel better, to give you energy, and to give you comfort. All of those things are so important to remember.”

“I would love to just kind of flip the conversation, especially with regard to women. We have to embrace ourselves and embrace the beauty that is within us. Also, we need to not feel shame around food. Let's throw that idea out.”

Recently, Handler turned 50 and it seems to solidify her beliefs and outlook on life. She said, “whenever you have a big birthday, be proud of everything that you’ve done. You have proof that you are reliable, resilient, and successful. You need to appreciate your age, because what is the other option, not be here.”

“Aging is a beautiful thing. There is wisdom. You don’t take yourself as seriously. You are much more present. I would encourage every women to remember to be grateful for all the years that we’ve had and embrace your aging.”

While another year in the books can bring wisdom, Handler encourages everyone to look at themselves and take stock in who and where they are. She said, “I think that being authentically who you are is part of being alive. Whether it is sitting alone, mediating, or self-care, those ingredients can help people find who they are authentically. Then, people can talk about the things that matter to them, indulge in the things that they love. I would encourage every person to go out there, feel good about yourself, and spread those moments in a positive way.”

Not only is Handler taking control of her freezer this year, her Netflix special and new book are doing well. Additionally, she has a residency at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. More importantly, she said that it is time to “double down on compassion, love, and kindness.”

Ready to be a little kinder to yourself and indulge in a Yasso frozen treat? Whether it is handling your freezer or your approach to food, it is time to say yes to what is possible.
