Ice cream might be the simple, nostalgic dessert that captures memories of precariously balancing a scoop on a cone. Recent ice cream flavors are far from juvenile sweetness. The new Graeter’s Bourbon Ball Ice Cream, two family owned businesses churn a special offering that deserves to be celebrated.
Food collaborations have become more and more popular. Sweet, savory, and everything in between have been part of the food conversation. Not only does it bring excitement; the reality is that these special offerings get all fans involved with trying something new.
The Graeter’s Bourbon Ball Ice Cream is a partnership with New Riff Distilling. For those unfamiliar, the Kentucky based distillery celebrates classic, distilling techniques.
Speaking about this collaboration, Richard Graeter, fourth-generation president and CEO, Graeter’s said, “We are thrilled to collaborate with New Riff Distilling to create a flavor that celebrates two iconic treats: Kentucky Bourbon and ice cream. Working with the team at New Riff to taste and select a special Single Barrel, our team has created the perfect fusion of our hand-crafted process and New Riff’s exceptional distilling, delivering a unique experience that honors the rich flavors of Kentucky.”

What does Graeter’s Bourbon Ball Ice Cream taste like?
The idea of ice cream and bourbon might not necessarily be the first concept, but a bourbon ball is a classic Kentucky dessert. That boozy, sweet and irresistible flavor is perfect after a hearty meal of burgoo or enjoyed during the Kentucky Derby.
This particular ice cream is infused with the New Riff’s single barrel bourbon. Folded into the luscious ice cream is whiskey-glazed pecans and dark chocolate chips.
First, the pecans are like little crunchy, nutty treasures that stud the ice cream. Finding one of those nuts on the spoon instantly brings a smile.
Second, the dark chocolate chips are a nice touch. While there could have been a swirl, the chips offer a little extra texture. Additionally, the dark chocolate offers a little bitterness with the sweet. It is smart to keep this ice cream from veering too far into the sweetness.
While everyone will delight on the flavor, this specialty ice cream is a celebration of craft and quality. A mass produced brand could not be able to do this specialty ice cream. Luckily, the ice cream is available to be shipped so that it can be enjoyed beyond the local distribution area.
The Graeter’s Bourbon Ball Ice Cream is available in shops and online at Graeters.com. Additionally, it will be available at select retailers later this month.
