Halloween Baking Championship Season 10 episode 6: Emerging into the finale
As the finale looms in the distance, the bakers are trying to navigate the perils lining their path to the title. In Halloween Baking Championship Season 10 episode 6, one baker went on a rollercoaster ride that no one expected. This theme of "Otherworldly Treats" needed to have the bakers soar towards the finale.
Since Halloween Baking Championship Season 10 episode 6 was the last episode until the finale, the immunity potion disappeared. The Thriller winner would not get a fast pass to a chance to earn the title.
In some ways, the immunity potion has proved to be beneficial for several bakers. Given the previous experience, Thierry would have loved to have had that safety. The top baker’s mistakes proved to be his demise.
For the Halloween Baking Championship Season 10 episode 6 Thriller Challenge, the bakers have to create a spirited dessert. While the x-ray image is a little curious, it is more than just a visual. The desserts had to have flavor, ingredient, and textural components.
In reality this challenge was quite complex and showcased the bakers’ creativity. Sometimes the Thriller Challenge is even more exciting than the Killer Challenge.
There were two questionable decisions. First, Hollie’s habanero cream was a little too spicy. Combined with her choux falling slightly, she was not in contention.
Neither was Joel. Although his dessert was quite stunning, it was pretty, not scary. The dessert would be perfect for a hotel fining dining experience, but not for this Food Network challenge.
Aaron had a great dessert. His impaled rodent was smart, but his flavors were delicious. The pineapple flavors were well-balanced.
Winning the Thriller Challenge was Lillian. She was able to save her brownie dessert with the décor. The judges were none the wiser. Additionally, the crunchy texture throughout the bite was smart. Lastly, she was able to channel the chaos that she normally plates.
Although she did not get immunity, she received an advantage in the Killer Challenge. For that dessert, each baker had to create an entremets that had a particular creature emerging from that dessert. These portal entremets needed to balance the flavor and the visual.
For her advantage, Lillian was able to swap creatures with another baker. She swapped her dog demon for Aaron’s steampunk zombie. Sometimes a swap is adventitious and other times it is not.
The most curious element from the Killer Challenge was that both Manny and Lillian had ever made an entremets previously. Even though it is a more elevated layered dessert, the bakers should know that it would be coming. A little practice or knowledge is always helpful in a Food Network challenge.
Joel was smart with his entremets. With goat as the theme, he incorporated some subtle goat cheese into the dessert. It was a smart element to combine with the bold visual. Overall, his dessert would earn him a spot in the finale.
The bigger surprise was Hollie’s rise to the top. Even though she bragged that she makes this type of dessert all the time, she has struggled throughout the season. In this scenario, her animated ghoul was perfect with her color choices. The layers, flavors, and textures of the entremets were perfect. It was classic. Hollie won the challenge and a place in the finale.
Aaron’s demon dog was good, but his mirror glaze was a little loose. But, the honey and orange blossom with plum was a great contrast of flavors. He earned a spot in the finale.
The two bottom bakers were obvious, Manny and Lillian. The mistakes were many in these entremets.
Manny’s image was a little muddled and the imperfections were clear. It was obvious that he was not confident with this type of dessert. It was imbalanced.
Lillian’s steampunk zombie was chaotic, messy. The guava was nice, but the textures were not right. The layers were imperfect. Overall, there were too many mistakes in her entremets. She was sent to the deep freeze.
Looking at the final four bakers, Aaron, Hollie, Joel, and Manny, it could be anyone’s title to win. Based on previous performances, Aaron and Joel could have the advantage. Unfortunately, there is no room for error in the finale and time travel cakes do not allow for going back to fix an error.
