After Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, Tiffany Derry handed out all the aprons to the cooking pairs, a new twist enters the MasterChef kitchen in this episode. The eliminated cooks return and try to earn their place in the competition. As seen in this exclusive clip from MasterChef Dynamic Duos episode 3, the rice is missing a key ingredient.
When FOX announced the theme for MasterChef Season 15, the idea of duos working together had many people wondering how quickly the pair’s harmony would disappear. Although no one threw a towel at each other in the opening rounds, a new twist could create some extra tension.
For episode 3, the judges invited the eliminated duos back into the kitchen for a second chance. Although redemption can be even sweeter, these cooks have a tough task to impress the judges. Having already tasted their best dish, this additional plate needs to be exceptional.
In this exclusive clip MasterChef Dynamic Duos provided to FoodSided, will Shanda and Asa listen to Joe’s advice?
During their first appearance, Shanda and Asa made a big mistake with their risotto. Serving undercooked rice to Joe was an unrecoverable error on their part. Whether it was poor technique, being too brazen, or just the inability to manage cooking times, the error seemed to show their naivety in this food competition.
Shanda and Asa seem to have another issue with this particular challenge, flavor. If they tell the judges that the rice is a coconut lime, it needs to have those ingredients in the dish. It appears that the rice is completely cooked, but the flavor is incorrect.
While Joe can question and question again, the point of the exercise is more than just badgering the cooks. Being able to taste, season, correct, and taste again is vital to MasterChef success. No one is going to have a better palate than Gordon Ramsay, but they should be know that tasting a dish during the process is vital.
Even if the tuna is expertly seared, the side salad is perfectly dressed, and all the other components are on point, bland rice will not earn this dynamic duo an apron. The pair might describe their dish as light, cohesive, and balanced, but words cannot correct a cooking error. Everything on the plate needs to be well-seasoned.
Will Shanda and Asa discover the rice’s missing ingredient? Watch MasterChef Dynamic Duos episode 3 on FOX, Wednesday June 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
