As one of the stars of Oikos’ Super Bowl commercial, “Surprising Strength,” Myles Garrett joins with Juno Temple to showcase that strength comes in all forms. While many people dream of a big game triumphant moment, everyone has events where their strength shines. Luckily, protein rich food, like Oikos, can fuel that power and make everyone ready to tackle any event.

Ahead of the big game, Myles Garrett graciously took some time to speak with FoodSided about his role in the Oikos Super Bowl LIX commercial as well as his thoughts on his impressive NFL career. From being named Defensive Player of the Year to making an impact in every game, Garrett understands that choosing food that supports his athletic endeavors is key. Plus, he is ready for whenever a challenge is revealed.

In this year’s Super Bowl commercial, Oikos brings humor to the moment. Everyone has had that moment of racing through an airport or racing somewhere. Although no one is suggesting sacking slow moving people in your way, but, using some of that surprising strength to power through the finish can be warranted.

Myles Garrett, discusses his Oikos commercial and some big moments in his football career.

Cristine Struble: Is starring in a Super Bowl ad the next best thing to playing in the Super Bowl? How do you think fans will react to the commercial?

Myles Garrett: Starring in a Super Bowl ad is an incredible experience and I’m fortunate to have this opportunity—but I imagine it would be nothing like competing for a Super Bowl. I’m hoping before it’s all said in done, I’ll be able to have the Super Bowl moment and can come back to you on comparing the moments. I think the fans will enjoy it—the spot is fun and enjoyable. We loved shooting it and hope it resonates with everyone when they see it.

CS: With your busy career, what is your best advice for tackling airport travel, including delays and limited food options?

MG: My best advice for tackling airport travel is to have something you enjoy with you (a book, good company, a solid music playlist), and to pack something you feel good about snacking on, like an Okios Pro.

CS: As a professional athlete, food fuels your performance. Do you have any Game Day foods that are always part of your routine? Have those eating habits changed over the years?

MG: Oikos Pro (20 grams of complete, high-quality protein) is part of my game day routine as well as a smoothie before kickoff. My eating habits haven’t changed much over the years as I’ve always looked to eat light on game days and an enjoy a larger meal after the game.

CS: You were just named a finalist for Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season. Also, you are the first NFL player to record 14 or more sacks in four consecutive seasons. Do you have a most memorable sack or defensive play that you feel epitomizes you as a defensive legend?

MG: My first sack on my first NFL snap was a memorable one for me, but ultimately my goal is to win a Super Bowl. Getting a few of those in a Super Bowl game to help us win are the type of plays that epitomize someone being considered a legend.

CS: Do you have any predictions for the Big Game?

MG: I’m predicting this to be a close and competitive game—not sure who will win it, but I think it will be a great one fans will enjoy.

It is time to fuel up for the big game, a big travel day, or any day. Luckily, Oikos has you covered. Isn’t it time to showcase your surprising strength?
