24 in 24 Last Chef Standing finale: Which chef will rise to the challenge?
After completing 20 challenges and cooking for 20 hours, the 24 in 24 Last Chef Standing finale will crown the winner. Which chef can survive the most demanding culinary competition on Food Network?
Through the 24 in 24 Last Chef Standing season, the chefs had to battle each other and the fatigue of cooking for 24 hours straight. While there have been short breaks along the way, the physical and mental impact is clear. Watching the chefs try to do math with lack of sleep showed the mental impact. Hopefully a long, well-deserved rest is in their future.
The four chefs remaining are Carlos Anthony, Chris Oh, Mika Leon, and Marcel Vigneron. Given that each of the chefs have had some highs and lows, it is difficult to predict who could earn the Food Network title.
Based on the most recent challenges, Carlos seems to have momentum. He has impressed the judges with his creativity. From curious ingredient combinations to innovative takes on traditional dishes, it is clear that he earned his spot in the finale.
Chris Oh seems to be struggling with fatigue. While Michael Symon might joke about the long, slow walk from the back of the kitchen, Chris has been clear that the physical aspect of this event has taken its toll. But, if he can push that aspect out of his mind, he could rise to the top.
Mika, the last woman standing, has found a way to stand out. In the most recent shift, she impressed by staying true to her culinary point of view. Throughout the entire season, Mika has highlighted her preference for Latin cuisine and showcased some of the dishes that have made her successful.
Lastly, Marcel has leveraged his food television competition experience to his advantage. While he has a lot of tricks in his knife bag, the reality is that he knows how to create robust flavors in the limited time frame. From frying chicken bones to extract more flavor to finding ways to play into the theme of each challenge, Marcel understands the complexities of the game.
Given that the 24 in 24 Last Chef Standing finale has the chefs “revisit an old challenge,” it will be curious to see how the mental and physical fatigue come into play. Can their culinary skills and technique still be as quick and nimble? Will these new dishes be as successful as the previous ones or will there be something totally out of the box on the plate?
