While many beer drinkers happily crack open a can of the 90 Minute IPA, Dogfish Head has proven itself in the canned cocktail space. The spirit based RTDs are bursting with bright, zesty flavor. With the addition of two new RTD cocktail options, the beverage brand is ready to take that spirited toast to the next level.

From a distance canned cocktails might look the same. Upon closer inspection of that slim can, the beverage inside can be quite different. Seltzers and malt beverages are not the same as spirit forward options. While some people might choose to drink a few of the first options, the second choice is more of a one and done drinking scenario.

When Dogfish Head launched its canned cocktails, it sought to be different, just like it does with its brewery. Even though the seaside scape offers a relaxing view, it does not mean the moment has to be mundane or subtle. Big, bold flavors that pack a punch can be that escapism that some people thirst for.

Joining the Dogfish Head canned cocktail line are Pineapple Orange Rum Mai Tai and Passion Fruit Citrus Vodka Mule. Both beverages weigh in at a 12.0% ABV.

Speaking to the new offerings Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Founder said, “We’re always looking for ways to take our cocktails to the next level. It’s about giving drinkers what they want, but in a way that offers a fresh perspective on what has come to be expected. We’ve been seeing higher-ABV (>8.0%) options selling well in the spirits-based RTD space, and among those higher-ABV options, vodka-based and rum-based recipes collectively make up more than half of all dollar sales. So, we took those insights and combined them with our own spirits and real, high-quality culinary ingredients to create our innovative takes on two classic recipes – the Mai Tai and the Moscow Mule.”

While culinary inspired or craft forward cocktails appeal to a particular drinker, these canned cocktails are more than just a niche offering. Looking at the flavor, they capture the fun of a tropical vibe without becoming one note sugary concoction.

The Passion Fruit Citrus Vodka Mule is quite interesting. Generally, a mule is ginger forward. Even though Passion Fruit can be subtle, that zesty flavor pairs well with the spicy ginger. The sweet and spicy are a different take on the swicy trend, but it is quite enjoyable.

Thinking about this flavor, it works well with a variety of food pairings. From a jerk chicken to even a hearty burger, the bright, spicy flavor can cut through rich, heavier food. It might become the must have canned cocktail of the summer.

The Pineapple Orange Rum Mai Tai celebrates that tropical vibe. Offering layers of flavor in that citrus forward cocktail is transports drinkers to that shoreline with steel drums playing in the background. Even if the view might be of a different coast, the free-spirited vibe comes through in every sip.

Thinking about this canned cocktail flavor, it will be a favorite for a pool party or a day where people are dreaming of their toys in the sand. It is an easy drinking option even if the ABV is on the higher side.

These Dogfish Head canned cocktails join the other flavors, Strawberry Honeyberry Vodka Lemonade, Blood Orange Mango Vodka Crush, and Grapefruit Pomegranate Vodka Crush. All of those options are at 7% ABV.

The Dogfish Head Bar Cart Vodka Mix Pack contains the various flavors. More information on these cocktails as well as other Dogfish Head can be found on its website.
