Centered in the middle of World Showcase, The American Adventure Pavilion at Epcot is using its space to celebrate an important conversation in the country’s history. During National Military Appreciation Month, Walt Disney World announced that it is bringing George W. Bush Institute’s Portraits of Courage: A Commander’s Tribute to America’s Warriors.

Choosing a life of service is never easy. While some people are called to that decision, it is more than just a solidary choice. Serviceman accept their duty, but the families of those individuals serve as their support along the way.

The exhibit, Portraits of Courage: A Commander’s Tribute to America’s Warriors features portraits painted by President George W. Bush. The exhibit is part of the Bush Institute’s Veterans and Military Families program. For the WDW event, the 12-month exhibit will feature 60 full-color portraits of service members and veterans.

Speaking about this special event, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences said, “Celebrating those who give so much to our country has been part of the fabric of The Walt Disney Company throughout our 100-year history. We’re grateful to the Bush Institute for allowing us to feature this special collection and share it with our guests.”

While many people will take the opportunity to view these visually stunning and moving pieces of art, it is the story behind them that will leave a lasting impression. Instead of just seeing a uniform without a face, it personalizes the dedication and sacrifice that comes along with choosing to serve the country.

Adding this exhibit to The American Pavilion adds another layer to the Epcot experience. While some people may happily stroll the World Showcase to experience all the food and beverages, the feasting is only one part of the Epcot experience. At the heart of the theme park is understanding and appreciating world cultures.

The American Pavilion might be the spot where people listen to the Voices of Liberty or take a few minutes to sit and recall important historic moments. Recent exhibits, like this Portraits of Courage: A Commander’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, show that it is the people behind the events that bring the stories to life.

Previously, the space hosted a jazz inspired exhibit. Showcasing America’s music and how it influences culture is just as important as getting a taste that smoky barbecue from the Regal Eagle Smokehouse. The intersection of food, music, art, and culture is an integral part of American history.

Portraits of Courage: A Commander’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, an exhibit from Bush Institute’s Veterans and Military Families program will debut on June 9, 2024. Admission to Epcot is required to see the exhibit.
