Lamorne Morris and Mike’s Hard Lemonade celebrate the hard job hustle, interview
The iconic song’s lyrics talk about 9 to 5, but the workday is far from that limiting. No matter the position, field, or task, everyone feels that their job is hard, sometimes too hard. Lamorne Morris partnered with Mike’s Hard Lemonade to see the refreshing side of the hustle.
During a special event on August 20, Lamorne Morris and Mike’s Hard Lemonade will host a Mike’s Jobstacle Course. For those who can maneuver all those twists, turns, ups, and downs and still turn in that TPS report and never drop the red stapler, they can receive a mighty reward. It might not have a gazillion zeros attached to the number, but the refreshing Mike’s Hard Lemonade is the beverage to toast the effort.
Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with Lamorne Morris about his collaboration with Mike’s Hard Lemonade, the value of hard work, and how he is marking his first Emmy nomination.
While Mike’s has a wide array of flavors, everyone has a preference. When asked about his favorite flavor, Morris stated, “my favorite flavor is lemonade. I’m just a lemonade person in general and Mike’s happened to be called hard lemonade; it makes sense for me.”
He recalled a funny story about his first sip of the malt beverage. “The first time I ever had a Mike’s Hard Lemonade, I remember a buddy giving me one at a birthday party. I just said, that’s awesome.”
While Morris has come to sip on different beverages for different occasions, he appreciates that Mike’s is an easy drinking option. Whether it is a gathering with friends, celebrating a White Sox winning season, or even that after work moment to unwind, there are plenty of occasions where Mike’s hits that satisfying refreshment.
Since this special event is about celebrating the hard work hustle, Morris had a few thoughts on the concept. He said, “It’s interesting. Everyone has to work; it is one of those things. If you working a job that does not thrill you, it can come with stress.”
“Even with jobs that you love can lead to burn out. I love acting and performing, but there are moments when I need a few days to relax and kick my feet up. That is how this campaign came across my desk.”
“There are moments when you work a lot. At the end of the day, you want to reward yourself. This campaign happened just when I needed a moment to have a drink and relax.”
“We might not be working in coal minds, but no matter the job, no matter how taxing it is, you need a reset. It makes my heart happy to see this Mike’s campaign happen.”
While the participants will have to face a few obstacles at the Mike’s Hard Lemonade event, life is full of ups, downs, and even a few potholes. But, learning from those experiences is vital.
Before his successful entertainment career, Morris worked in the hospitality industry. In some ways, that working experience has influenced how he treats others in his current career path.
When asked about his hospitality world experience, Morris explained, “it affects the way that you treat people. There is a stereotype about actors and entertainers that they treat people a certain way. When you come up in hospitality, you understand how to serve and you continue doing that. We’re being rewarded by having the ability to continue to do our jobs and provide for our families. It is nice every once and awhile to take care of someone else on set.”
While his service today is a quite different from being a server at the iconic Ed Debevic's, Morris understands that how people approach one another is vital. Being able to sit down, have a conversation, and even celebrate is vital to feeling fulfilled. Even if people debate which job is the hardest, it does not matter. At the end of the day, everyone can raise a glass and toast to a job well done.
Speaking of well done, Lamorne Morris just received his first Emmy nomination. When asked if he has celebrated the accolade, Morris shared, “I haven’t had a chance to kick back and enjoy the fact that I was nominated, and I will. We work a lot and are goal driven. But, we need to stop, smell the roses, and realize that the journey is the thing that we should be seeking. You learn so much on these journeys. Sometimes, you need to sit back and say, this is cool, I’m lucky, and I’m grateful and blessed to be in this position. That recess helps when you go back to work.”
Ready to toast to the job well done no matter how hard it seems? Grab a cold Mike’s Hard Lemonade out of the fridge and sip till you are satisfied.
